Imagine you are the PM of a recently independent country and are taking over from a megalomaniac of a PM.
The coffers are empty. The country doesn't have any food and are getting by on weed infested wheat rejected by the animals of the western world.
There's no industry.
Economy is in absolute shit. Foreign policy is in tatters. And you are just recovering from a devastating defeat by a treacherous neighbour, whom your predecessor thought was our best friend
The Armed forces are demoralized and our other little nuisance, Pakistan is moving ahead
So much so that Pakistan is actually ahead of us in military terms.
We neither have roti, milk, kapda is barely available and less said about the makaan, the better.
I don't think any PM of India, faced such a disaster that a certain Lal Bahadur Shastri faced in 1964.
Anybody else would have run away. That guy Seized the Bull by the horns.
Green revolution and White revolution are gifts that still keep giving, 46 years later.
The military modernization plan and the daring attack on Lahore, told the world and Pakistan, don't mess with us
Lal Bahadur Shastri didn't go to Oxford, didn't speak polished English, didn't wear Western Attire. He didn't have any attributes that our intelligentsia say that is needed for a suave politician.
But he accomplished in 2 years, what the so called family didn't do in 40 years.
His height was only 5'2, but he is the biggest colossus in Indian politics.
Happy Birthday, Lal Bahadur Shastri ji.. You will live forever in the heart of every Indian, who knows what you have done for us.
Sad that most remember the other guy on October 2nd..

Personal opinion : The most necessary tweak that the Govt should implement in UPSC, is eliminating the practice of candidates who accept a service and then take an year off and try for a better one
This is a ridiculous practice, particularly considering the odds of success
Imagine the situation of the person who missed out by one rank or two, thanks to these individuals.
That guy has to start from scratch, go back to the prelims and the year long cycle
OTOH there are people who have qualified for Railway Service, decide they are not happy with it
They want to get into IAS. But they don't relinquish their Railway appointment in their attempt. Because who will give up a govt Job?
You accept a service. You stick with it. If You Want to become an IAS. Go ahead, all the best. But Reject the current appointment to try again
There is a section of the population that somehow thinks Green Revolution and White revolution was bad for India. I still have no idea how ignorant we can be towards our history.
Before these programs started Indian agriculture and dairy industry was in absolute doldrums.
Our milk and crop yields were lowest in the world, by a huge distance. We didn't not have food to eat & milk to drink & were dependant on handouts from the west for it
The situation was so bad, that our PM had to ask us to skip one meal a week, so that poor could get some food
Half of India was on the verge of starvation.
It was in that hopeless situation that these programs were started.
Today we are self sufficient in food and milk. No Indian starves to death because of unavailability of food.
That was what green and white reclvolution did for us.
The Bajaj Chetak is one of the best examples of why Capitalism trumps Socialism.
As you all know the famous "Tilt the Bajaj Scooter" for it to start. What many of us don't know, is why this was the case.
When Bajaj designed the scooter, ideally, they should have placed the engine at a level lower than the fuel tank, so that the fuel flows to the engine
They placed it parallel.
As a result, when the scooter was parked, the fuel didn't flow to the engine and scooter didn't start
So you had to tilt the scooter to the right, to get the fuel flowing to the engine and it could start.
And then there was a carburettor issue, where more fuel flowed to the engine and it wouldn't start. So you had to tilt the scooter to the left to get it going.
11th century was a tough time to be in the Middle East. On one side you had Islam becoming the predominant religion and on the other, you had the Christians who wanted to put an end to the domination
To decide who's the best, in 200 years, both fought 4 wars, called Crusades
The wars ebbed and flowed, till the arrival of a dude called Saladin.
Saladin united all the Muslim troops, defeated the Crusaders repeatedly and captured Jerusalem. Many people believe Saladin saved Islam when it was most vulnerable.
But there was one more element to him.
One of the most famous representation of Saladin, was with his sword. The sword was supposed to be legendary, so much so that it cut thru the armour of the Crusaders, as it was butter.
In fact many accounts say it was the quality of the swords that made the victory possible.
A company that started off as a hotel aggregator, opened their own hotels, went into wedding organization, went to China, Japan and USA, but never ever made a profit, is planning to IPO.
Almost everything I have heard about that company ranges from worse to worst.
But now they will be touted as a trendsetter, a success, an amazing achievement and all other superlatives.
I am a firm believer in Karma, destiny and divine justice. But if this goes thru, this will be one time my faith will be a stirred a little bit.
I don't think they have ever come close to making money. I don't think any of their acquisitions have worked out. And I will trust the word of the devil before I trust the Financials of the company
Hell they started off by cheating a couple of Gurgaon based entrepreneurs
The real electronics power play is not the ultra sophisticated 2 nm chip fabrication game.
It is the sub 10 rs, cheap electronics used in toys, led bulbs and other small circuits in random objects game.
That's where China dominates. We need to Crack that in the short term.
You go to a temple, a park or any random tourist locations where People are selling those boats, the florescent light things, electronic dolls, cars, that sort of things..
All are Made in China.
To develop fabrication of advanced processors will probably take years. And to develop the technical knowhow indigenously, will take decades.
But these small things, with govt support, can be done immediately. That will reduce our dependency on China, Significantly.
