Did Mitch McConnell just mention Democrats, ports, and China in the same sentence? Is it my birthday?

It seems like a good time for a history lesson on Mitch McConnell’s connections to China, and to port funding.
(1/)
Here’s a partial quote:

“…Democrats have taken our roads, bridges, ports, airports, and waterways hostage to ram through an historically reckless taxing and spending spree that would hurt families and help China."

(2/)

The “ports” part is easy: Mitch McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, doled out over $64,000,000 to clients of the Florida lobbyist she hired as her “advisor on ports” shortly after her confirmation as Secretary of Transportation.

(3/)
Granted, $64,000,000 is a drop in the bucket of a multi-trillion-dollar budget. $64,000,000 is more than a drop, though, when you hand it to clients of the person you hired as a Special Government Employee.

Mitch McConnell and China, tho—where to begin?

2010, maybe, when McConnell and his wife spoke at the opening of the University of Kentucky’s Confucius Center?

(5/)
spectrumnews1.com/ky/lexington/n…
Oh, no—what happened?

(6/)
motherjones.com/politics/2019/…
What happened is that even Senate Republicans grew tired of assisting “an important part of China’s propaganda set-up.”

(7/)

In 2013, McConnell’s wife attended a naming ceremony for her father’s latest ship purchase from People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN)-affiliated CSSC. She spoke against a so-called “yuan bill,” which would’ve labeled China a currency manipulator…

(8/)
politico.com/story/2011/10/…
…—a bill that Mitch McConnell had unsuccessfully filibustered.

(9/)
marinelog.com/news/foremost-…
In 2015, Elaine Chao traveled to China to witness her father sign a $75M deal with PLAN-affiliated CSIC.

(10/)
defense.gov/News/Releases/…
Both Chao family shipping company shipbuilders—CSIC and CSSC—were recently determined to be People’s Liberation Army-controlled organizations masquerading as civilian entities.

Shorter: McConnell’s extended family has been funding the PLA.

(11/)

During her 2015 visit to China, Elaine Chao and her family met with the former head of the United Front Work Department, to which Confucius Centers worldwide allegedly report to.

(12/)
tsinghua.edu.cn/en/info/1245/4…
Chao also spoke at Tsinghua University during this visit. She omitted this speech from her written Senate confirmation testimony less than two years later.

(13/)
google.com/amp/s/www.cbsn…
Elaine Chao did, however, annotate the speech she gave on behalf of the Mujaheddin-e-Khalk on her written testimony. Rudy Guiliani also gave a speech. Incidentally…

(14/)
…Rudy and Elaine Chao have some history. When Rudy indicted five United Orient Bank officers for money laundering, two officers who weren’t indicted were Elaine Chao’s father, and a future brother in law. Chao would later hire a Rudy staffer as her spokesperson at Labor.

Beginning in 2017, the Delaware Public Employees’ Retirement System invested $65,000,000 in China-centric venture capital funds co-managed by one of Mitch McConnell’s brothers-in-law.

(16/)
Another McConnell brother in law made a $91M purchase of (Chinese EV company) NIO for his hedge fund shortly before it was publicly known that Bank of China would jointly extend a line of credit to NIO.

His sister in law was a Bank of China board member at the time.

(17/)
Incidentally, this was the same brother in law who made a $26.8M XPO Logistics purchase for his hedge fund—the fund’s first ever XPO buy—when former XPO executive Louis DeJoy was named Postmaster General by a USPS board comprised of members confirmed by Mitch McConnell.

(18/)
I can’t think of anyone who’s done less to keep China’s political and financial influence in check than Mitch McConnell.

If he’s complaining that Democrats will empower China, my guess is that it’s because his family can’t monetize whatever they are or aren’t doing.

Yesterday, in Onslow County, NC.

I recognize three Onslow County Board of Education members, none of whom are wearing masks. This aligns with the “masks are a personal choice” policy they’ve mandated at all county schools for the upcoming school year.

In 2015, McConnell reported that his wife earned $50,001-$100,000 from her investment in said brother in law’s Caymans-registered offshore fund. I think it’s safe to say that they’re familiar with the hedge fund.

The population of Onslow County is ~200,000, and only 38% are fully vaccinated. This news should be surprising to no one.
Over the past two days, two people I personally know (one vaccinated; one unvaccinated) have tested positive and are symptomatic, and my wife knows the spouse of one of Onslow Memorial’s 25 COVID patients. The Delta variant does not mess around.
There are a lot of factors (and factions) working against an effective pandemic defense for North Carolinians. One of those factors is our Lieutenant Governor.

Here’s Wyoming’s statutory definition of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. Wyoming has no statute of limitations for this crime.

A person convicted under this subsection is subject to imprisonment for not more than 20 years.
“Being seventeen (17) years of age or older, the actor inflicts sexual intrusion on a victim who is thirteen (13) through fifteen (15) years of age, and the victim is at least four (4) years younger than the actor;”

Anthony Bouchard admitted he was 18, and his victim was 14.
The penalty.

(W.S. 6-2-306(e) prescribes life without parole if an “actor” has one or more previous conviction.)
