The map no longer exists, and here is why.

~ a thread
Over 3 weeks ago, @blogTO released an article about NoPassList: a website created for businesses to register as non-compliant with the new #VaccinePassport system. It shocked me beyond words, and after days of not being able to "shake" it, I decided to do something about it.
The idea that there were hundreds of businesses registered with a website actively defying the passport system - many not informing their customers - infuriated me. They were taking away the right to informed and responsible consumerism.
So! I parsed the data of the registered businesses on the site and created a map. I sent it to my loved ones, trying to look out for them, in case one of their local businesses had registered as non-compliant.
They all loved it, and urged me to share it further so people in my community could benefit from the aggregated data. The businesses registered were all publicly available - I just put it into one spot. An efficiency that many people seek out.
I made this Twitter account, in hopes that a couple people would see the map and maybe chat with their friends about responsible consumer choices. After a couple of days of small interactions, @blogTO reached out and wanted to do a story.
I jumped at the opportunity, thinking only of community safety and the conversations this would start. The map went from under 500 views in the 5+ days it was up, to over 147,000 in the week after the article was published.
What first was the possibility to start conversations about responsible and informed consumer choices, quickly became a cesspool of death threats, violent messages, hateful rhetoric and more.
I no longer felt safe in my community, my home, or my body. The alt-right message came across loud and clear:

"Our freedom to go against government laws/mandates and put people in danger trumps any freedom you have to warn people about it."
With all the threats, it became glaringly obvious that I was doing something right.

The fact that consumers were thinking twice about where they were going, calling ahead to query health policies and boycotting those who publicly opposed the mandate, enraged the other side.
Then I realized - the map was just a vehicle to the real important stuff: consumers have the right, but also /the responsibility/ to an informed choice.

This starts with, and ends with us.
Just because the #VaccinePassport exists, does not mean that businesses are complying. In reality, there are hundreds of businesses across Ontario that are publicly (and happily), sharing their non-compliance attitude.
Unfortunately, in these strange times, we have to second guess supporting businesses that were once a favourite. And that really sucks - full stop.

It sucks that we are being driven from the places we love because businesses are choosing conspiracy over public safety.
So the map might be down, but all of those public sites still remain. And I am here to share them with you. They aren't all aggregated into one spot, but they will inform you on the places that are registered with anti-passport/anti-vaccine websites.
These are the sites that the map was pulling data from: ontariobad.ca
novaxpass.co
savecanada.army
discriminationfreeshopping.com
tinyurl.com/4nffje4s

You can use these to keep your community and loved ones safe. It is all we can do right now.
These websites tell one side of a story: many businesses are against the #VaccinePassport and that vaccines are evil.

Two things that are wholeheartedly untrue. 1. Thousands of businesses are happily complying, because they can protect staff and patrons. 2. #VaccinesSaveLives
The next time you plan to go out to dinner, catch a movie, head to a yoga class or get drinks with your friends: do your research.

Look on these sites, call the business, check on their socials, ask neighbours. It is all our responsibility.
And, if you end up in a place that is not enforcing, and they should be (see below covid-19.ontario.ca/proof-covid-19…) just leave.

If you want more actionable items: tell your loved ones, call your local public health unit, warn your neighbours.
78% of Canadians support the #VaccinePassport. You are in the majority by doing your due diligence and being responsible with your money and spending it at businesses that choose public safety first.
I want to thank everyone who reached out to me, cheered me on and supported me by retweeting, liking and sharing.

The map had over 147,000 views when I took it down. That is thanks to you. Just like the supporters for the passport, the benevolent people were the majority.
For all the trolls/violent men who threatened me, you did not win.

This Twitter account will remain, and I am making it my goal to educate and inform consumers on the failings of many businesses currently rooted in conspiracy across Ontario.
And none of you hateful trolls can take away from me how proud I am, not only of my community for stepping up to keep each other safe - but also of myself.

I know that I started something here, the tide is turning, and this is just the beginning.
Regardless, let me leave you with this:

We as consumers vote with our dollar in a multitude of ways. It is OUR responsibility to spend and support responsibly. Use the sites above as a starting point, but don't stop with that. Do your homework, and support businesses who care.
