I've been talking a lot lately about how our ancestors knew more about medicine then we give them credit for.

They weren't the primitive witch doctors they're portrayed as.

Today's example: Bromelain.

In tropical environments, tribal people relied..(1/17)

On plentiful Pineapples for medicinal purposes.

Specifically, these tribes would grind the stems and consume them.

Like all natural, tribal "medicine" it was chalked up to culture & superstition...

It wasn't until the 19th century that a Venezuelan scientist isolated the enzyme BROMELAIN in Pineapple.

However, it took until 1957 before researchers discovered that the highest concentrations of the enzyme were in the pineapple’s stem.
