GOP having a bad week
DC press did *not* see this coming
quick explainer: GOP had told Dems we oppose raising debt, and vote is filibustered, so you need 10 GOP votes instead of straight Dem vote

then McConnell blinked said ok to temp debt deal, but vote still technically filibustered and he can’t find 10 GOP’s to vote yes.

first person quoted in story is Republican voter who opposes mandates even tho, according to poll, they represent just 34% of country
why the “divide”? bc GOP’s don’t like the mandate. (Dems and independents do)

so in eyes of AP, the radical minority (34%} is just as important as the overwhelming majority
