Trump International Hotel in DC--despite all the big bar tabs from lobbyists/White House officials/foreign dignitaries, supporters of Trump and RUDY Giuliani, of course--lost an estimated $74 million between 2016 and 2020, according to data collected by House Oversight Committee Image
House Oversight is investigating the lease by the federal government of the Old Post Office building to Trump for this hotel. Trump had reported total revenue from the hotel in his annual financial disclosures. We always knew that as reporters. It was not PROFITS.
Here is the full letter sent to the General Services Administration--the fed government's landlord--about the Trump hotel lease. oversight.house.gov/sites/democrat… Image
Couple of observations. A) It remains unclear to me that this hotel actually lost money. Trump has a history of cooking the books to make an appearance of a business loss on one ledger, but he still has profits on another.
B) If Trump hotel did lose money every year since it opened--that is also not a surprise to me. Yes, it got a lot of political business from backers of Trump. But corporations and many business travelers stayed away. That hotel severely UNDER PERFORMS given its location.
That is why Trump Org is trying to sell the hotel. It is worth more money to a mainstream hotel chain. It is without question a beautiful hotel--perhaps most beautiful hotel lobby in DC. But it under performs on the market--because of Trump, even if it pulls in Trump supporters.

JUST POSTED: Despite all Republican-paid political events & big bar tabs from lobbyists, foreign dignitaries & other supporters of President Trump, the Trump hotel in DC lost an estimated $74 million between 2016 and 2020, data released Friday shows nytimes.com/2021/10/08/us/…
We waited a while to post this story so we could dig into the documents and evaluate the 212 pages of detailed financial reports made public by House Oversight on Friday. Here are all those documents. int.nyt.com/data/documentt… Image
Here is my take on these documents. The House Oversight Committee report overstated the losses by Trump Hotel, because it included depreciation losses of about $8 million a year. That is not a real loss. That is a paper loss. Image

THREAD:Let's walk through secretive drive late last year by a small group of religious activists who teamed up with Trump & Republican state AGs to try to overturn presidential election. Start off with Mike Farris, from the anti-gay rights/anti abortion Alliance Defending Freedom
Farris in the above email is sending a draft of the complaint that Texas AG Ken Paxton would about a week later file with the United States Supreme Court. For now, Farris is pitching South Carolina AG Alan Wilson. Will take just about any GOP AG. So he leaves state name blank
SC AG Wilson talks to Farris abt proposed lawsuit. "We have been having constant conversations with other state AGs and state AG staffs" But Wilson has issues with it, which he details in an email to another conservative activist, the author Don Brown. So Farris has to move on.

Trump Super PAC Removes Corey Lewandowski After Sexual Harassment Claim @maggieNYT (with credit to @politicoalex for breaking the news) nytimes.com/2021/09/29/us/…
Photos of the dinner reviewed by POLITICO show Odom posing for selfies with attendees. Several photos showed Lewandowski just above her right shoulder, with his tongue sticking out of his mouth. @politicoalex
Mr. Lewandowski tried to hold her hand, and she pushed his hand away. He touched her leg, she moved it away. He grabbed her napkin off her lap and tried to touch her leg again, and she pulled her dress over her leg, to move his hand away and cover her skin,” Odom’s attorney said

THREAD: To those who consider cryptocurrency hard to understand & aren't paying attention. Time to rethink. Bitcoin may seem speculative--and yes, it is. But global financial system is being revolutionized. Nature of $$ is transforming. This is a BIG deal nytimes.com/2021/09/23/us/…
The US government increasingly recognizes this. As the global value of cryptocurrency booms, regulators in the United States are rushing to create the first major new rules governing this virtual currency--a push that will start with so-called stablecoins. nytimes.com/2021/09/17/bus…
A lobbying frenzy is underway in Washington as the cryptocurrency industry knows that a major set of new federal rules will soon be imposed to regulate so-called stablecoins--and industry players want to shape how the rules are written.
