1) When I first moved to FL & heard there was a river called Peace River that starts at the mouth of Charlotte Harbor, south of Tampa Bay. I thought in our meanderings south I'd get to cross it someday. I've wanted to cross it...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_Riv…
2) I've always wanted to cross it, to say that I've crossed the flowing waters of Peace. And write a poem like that. And tonight I will. But by going north instead of south, somewhere close by Bartow, FL. as we traverse SR-60 to get to our AirBnB in Lake Wales...
3) When time permits in the winter, I'd like to explore more of the Peace River, including the Mosaic Peace River Park, which is not on the river, but a little beyond it, and has some of the most interestingly-shaped water features. On a map they look like an alien language...
4) Florida has water features like this here & there in the center of the state...not sure if man-made or carved by the hand of nature. Sure are interesting, though. There are weird shaped lakes in FL Don't ask me about the one I found shaped like a dude's junk. Don't. 🤣
5) Ahem... The Peace River is 106 mi long. Not the longest in FL. I thought it was. Turns out that is St. John's River around Jaxville area. We will go there too someday. There's supposed to be a river monster living in it. stjohnsriverkeeper.org/about-us/our-r…
6) FL has many beautiful rivers & 100x more lakes. The area we are headed to, you should be able to throw a stone from wherever you are & hit a lake. I exaggerate, but there are a ton of lakes. The town Land o' Lakes is in this region somewhere. There are probably lakes there
Of all Florida Rivers, we've only spent some time on Myakka River so far. In Myakka River State Park. We did not see the Myakka Skunk Ape. Tho, they do have interesting big-ass cages set out everywhere along the road thru the park. They say for "bears."
8) We will end up going near the Suwannee River next year when we visit Fanning Springs and stay in a cabin there at the State Park. Should be fun.
9) For now, I'm finishing up our plans for Lake Wales. Sunday we will visit Lake Kissimmee State Park and look for scrub jays. And for these other birds too. floridabirdingtrail.com/trail/trail-se…

Why the f*ck are we vacationing in little "roll up the carpet at 6 pm" town Lake Wales in the middle of Florida? Well...1) Bok Tower. Bells. They apparently sound very pretty & the grounds are lovely. boktowergardens.org 1/
2) The Tower & gardens are on top the highest point above sea level in FL, on Iron Mountain. Part of a ridge that runs through the middle of FL dotted with lakes. Ridge Hwy is one of US Scenic Hwys. ridgescenichighway.com
3) There's supposedly (or there once was) gnomes that troubled the owners of an orange grove near Bok Tower. They haven't been sighted since they first were, in the 1950s. But ya never know...
