…to the priestess of Quraysh and I said to her: ‘I saw in my dream a tree that is growing. Its crown reaches the heavens and its branches span the east and the west. And I have never seen such a light that emerges from it, [a light that is] seventy times greater that the light…

…of the sun. And I saw the Arabs and the non-Arabs prostrating. And in every moment, it increased in greatness, light, and height; in one moment it disappears and in another it reappears. I saw a group from the Quraysh clinging themselves to the branches. And I saw [another]…

…group from the Quraysh seeking to cut them off; when they come close to it, a young man—whose countenance I have never seen such beauty and whose redolence is the most fragrant—took hold of them, broke their backs, and take out their eyes. Then, I raised my hand to take…

…a share of it, but I did not receive it, so, I said: ‘For whom is the share?’ He replied: ‘The share is for those who clung themselves to it (i.e. the branches of the tree) and they preceded you to it.’ I woke up terrified and shaken. Then, I saw the face of the priestess…

…changed and said: ‘If your dream is true, there will come from your loins a man who will reign the east and the west, and people will obey him. Then he said to Abū Ṭālib: ‘It may be this newborn.’

Abū Ṭālib used to narrate this narration and the Prophet ﷺ came out…

…and he (i.e. Abū Ṭālib) said: ‘By Allāh, Abū al Qāsim the trustworthy is the tree.’ It is said to him: ‘Do you not believe in him?’ He replied: ‘[I do not believe due to] the shame and disgrace.’”
