Happy Monday to all! A few thoughts about why I'm running to represent Utah in the U.S. Senate and how we can win. Thread 👇🏻
America is in jeopardy, threatened by division, political extremism, and self-serving politicians. Mike Lee has become part of Washington's broken politics and, next year, Utahns will have the opportunity to replace him.
I’m running as an independent because that’s the kind of leadership Utah and the nation need, but also because I believe it's the only way to unite voters from different parties and affiliations to replace Lee.
Lee is likely to win the Republic primary, despite opposition within the GOP. Democrats haven’t been competitive in statewide elections for decades, making up just a fraction of registered voters. And independents and 3rd party members are just over a third of voters statewide.
The point is that no single group on its own can replace Lee even though most Utahns would prefer a better alternative. Not principled Republicans. Not Democrats. Not independents. And not third-parties.
But there is good news: we can prevail together. That is the purpose of my campaign, to unite Utahns across the partisan divide to replace Lee, to better serve Utah, and to get our country on track. It won't be easy, but we can certainly do it.
If we rise above the tribalism and partisanship that plague America now, we will win. If not, Lee will get another 6 years to divide America, get little done for Utah, and lead the nation further down its current path.
For the state and the nation, we cannot allow it. Most Utahns don't fee well-represented by Lee. My commitment is to listen to ALL Utahns from every corner of the state and every party, and to ensure that everyone's voice is heard, not just one faction of one party.
As a start, I’ve built a campaign team led by Republicans, Democrats and independents to ensure that we can reach every group. What we're doing is unique in America, but it's the needed antidote to the corrosive politics of Lee and others. I invite all to join us! 🇺🇸

As we celebrate this historic moment in which millions of Americans stand together to uphold our democracy, I'd like to thank so many who have my deepest gratitude for their patriotic acts in the last four years:
People from across the country who understood the threat of Trump and Trumpism and engaged civically like never before, giving of their time, resources and talents to the American cause;
Republicans and conservatives who put country over party to defend truth, decency and the constitutional order; Democrats who set aside partisan differences and welcomed partnership with disaffected Republicans in defense of the nation;

A note to my fellow conservatives and Republicans: I hope you won’t view this electoral loss as setback, but rather as an opportunity to move forward and beyond the darkness of the last four years.
Trumpism is an evil, destructive lie that has deceived many among us. Let us leave it in the past, recommit to our founding principles, and join other Americans in the fight for liberty and justice, contributing ideas supported by our values and fact to the national dialogue.
Many of us have been on opposite sides of this struggle, but my heart, mind and arms remain open to you and to anyone who will now choose love over fear, truth over lies, and freedom over tyranny. Every day presents a new opportunity to choose good and the national interest.

In the critical swing state of Arizona, over 700 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a key voter segment, have signed a @StandUpRepublic letter led by former Arizona state senator @bob_worsley opposing Trump's re-election. Thank you!kjzz.org/content/160930…
Members of the Church in Arizona can read and add their names to the letter below. (If you know someone in AZ who'd be interested, please share this with them!) medium.com/@r4npaz/a-resp…
But we invite all independent and Republican Arizonans to join our campaign to replace Trump and elect a more unifying, capable president in November, a president who will serve with honor, loyalty and decency. Please join our campaign here:

National Security Advisor O'Brien and DHS Secretary Wolf reportedly told DHS to stop producing intel assessments on Russia and shift the focus on election interference to China and Iran. Parts of our government have become a Moscow-enabling disinfo machine.washingtonpost.com/national-secur…
This is obviously a problem because it provides government cover for Moscow's ongoing disinformation campaign to divide Americans and help Trump hold onto power, but also because it prevents the country from understanding the nature of Russia's attacks and responding accordingly.
It's what's called "politicization of intelligence," but it's actually worse. This is government weaponization of intelligence against Americans, both in its enabling of an adversary's attacks and its use to justify government crackdowns and intimidation of the people.

Compassion is so vital to our nation because it strengthens our commitment to our founding principle that all are created equal. That principle is not only essential to accountable government, but also to effective governance because it facilitates knowledge and understanding.
Without compassion for people, you don’t value them. And if you don’t value them, you don’t understand them. And if you don’t value or understand them, you can’t serve them. And when this is the condition of our leaders, the people suffer.
Leaders without compassion for the people don’t care to understand their lives: their struggles, their worries, their hopes. Instead they focus on themselves, on their press coverage, personal wealth and power, all while ignoring the interests of the people they serve.

Sadly, the coronavirus is going to teach us the hard way why it's so important that our leaders respect and seek truth, and place serving the American people before their own interests. The alternative, as Trump is demonstrating, costs dearly in lives and economic security.
Aspiring dictators prioritize their power and ill-gotten wealth above the people without moral limit or remorse, no matter how destructive for the countries they pretend to govern. This always puts them at odds with truth as they try to conceal their corruption and ineptitude.
But we continue to live within inescapable, omnipresent truth, the fabric of life itself, no matter how many lies the aspiring tyrant tells. For personal survival, benefit or ignorance, some submit to the dictator and pretend to live within his lies, while others refuse.
