Relatives of a Manchester Arena bombing victim who could have survived his injuries with faster medical care have hit out at “mistake after mistake”
John Atkinson hadn't been taken to hospital when he went into cardiac arrest 1h 16m after the explosion independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
A paramedic apologised at the public inquiry but Sir John Saunders told him: “Had Mr Atkinson got that treatment early enough, when NWAS were at the scene and you were capable of giving it, then he probably would have survived. That is not a situation which should happen.”
Mr Atkinson’s relatives did not accept the apology
In a joint statement today, they said the Manchester Arena bombing “should have been prevented by proper security”
“To compound this John was badly let down by some from the emergency services. Mistake after mistake was made...
"...and precious time was allowed to ebb away whilst John needed urgent hospital treatment.
“This should never have been allowed to happen. Actions speak louder than words, and we wait to see what actions are taken to ensure this never happens again.”
The inquiry continues

“CCTV footage from the parking area and the testimony of the security guard who witnessed the incident indicated that the driver did not notice the accident and did not stop,” the prosecutor said

The deputy senior national coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing told a summit:
“Incel in and of itself is not a terrorist ideology. You become a terrorist when you cross a threshold in terms of your actions and it’s about what you do or intend to do to further that cause”
The officer added: “The attack in Plymouth wasn’t driven by an ideology, albeit that individual was engaged in some kind of incel thinking. That doesn’t make him a terrorist.”
