Earlier this year, @KCProsecutor released a first-of-its-kind data dashboard that provides public access to data regarding the types of crimes referred to our office and the cases filed:

kingcounty.gov/depts/prosecut…
We partnered with a number community groups, criminal justice system partners, and academic experts to gain an understanding of their needs and concerns, which informed data collection methods and the development of the dashboard.
By partnering with @TheUIHI, we hope to advance equity & social justice principles by improving data collection and analysis for American Indians & Alaska Natives.
Our partnership with @TheUIHI is one we are most proud of, and is one step @KCProsecutor is taking towards building a community network through collaboration and guidance from Native voices and scientists.
We are constantly working to develop innovative tactics & tools to address domestic violence against indigenous peoples in King County and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls crisis. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #DecolonizeData #DVAM

Nikolas Fernandez, the man arrested Sunday after the shooting at the protest on Capitol Hill, had his first court appearance Monday. Our office asked that the court find probable cause that a first-degree assault had been committed and that bail be set at $350,000.
A judge found probable cause for first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement, but set bail at $150,000. If he posts bond, that amount is based on the amount set by a judge.
This is a serious felony case. That is why we asked for a higher bail amount and that the court find probable cause that a first-degree assault had been committed. Full statement below:

Do you have questions about how arrests, booking, charges, etc. work in Seattle and King County? We put together a FAQ with contact info and additional resources to help folks understand how it works. THREAD (click each image for the full answer).
Question: “What happens when people are arrested in Seattle on new cases?” Answer: People booked before midnight are scheduled on the following day’s first appearance calendar. Then a judge determines whether probable cause is found.
Question: “Are charges filed when you’re booked into jail?” Answer: No. Not all arrests lead to a criminal charge. Charges in some cases are filed later by prosecutors.
