This morning, Mr. Nickel made a serious allegation against me. It is a lie. As a leader, I hold myself to the highest standard and would never compromise my duty to the public.
Let’s break down the facts.
The original buyer for Lot 38 purchased the lot at the same time I made my initial deposit and agreed to the price, in March 2010. I received no discount of any kind on the land purchase.
Both lots were originally sold for approximately the same value, but the buyer of Lot 38 resold his for a higher price to the neighbour in question. That sale is the one reflected in the Transfer of Title Mr. Nickel has provided.
This false accusation was fully investigated by the media in 2016. They found there was no substance to it and did not run a story on it—because the truth is that my lot was purchased at the same price as others initially were in the subdivision.
This is typical of Mr. Nickel—make a public accusation or cook up a conspiracy and hope that it takes on a life of its own.
For example, Mr. Nickel held a press conference last year to ask Jason Kenney and the RCMP to look into his fake claims of foreign election interference. Neither responded, and Mr. Nickel lost interest.
Mr. Nickel was the subject of multiple code of conduct hearings. He has falsely characterized them as a politically motivated plot, rather than the consequences of his own bullying behaviour.
Even last week, he accused the city auditor of being compromised, dumped documents, drew no conclusions, and hasn’t mentioned it since. Just another drummed up conspiracy to hold a press conference and get him a photo op.
These are not the actions of a leader. Someone aspiring to be our mayor should never promote conspiracy theories. It's beneath the office he aspires to hold.
How can we expect City Councillors, regional partners or other orders of government to work with a Mayor who has an extensive track record of making baseless public attacks in bad faith?
Throughout this campaign, I have shared my vision for Edmonton in a positive and respectful way. I hope to return to discussing the issues that are important to Edmontonians. I invite Mr. Nickel to do the same.

From modest beginnings with ETS to my time in Ottawa, I acknowledge the many privileges I’ve been afforded as a Canadian citizen and am very grateful that my family and I have been given the opportunity to call Canada home. (3/7)
