🧵: On Tuesday, we and our partners @craglaw and @oregonwild asked a federal judge to stop the Forest Service from changing terms of timber sales - without public notice - after areas burn in a wildfire. 1/4

In April this section of the Willamette National Forest was standing, but by early May it was effectively clearcut - without any public notice or opportunity to give input. 2/4
The Forest Service quietly changed contracts signed before the 2020 fires, allowing near total tree removal from burned areas. The irony? Original sales were thinning projects to mimic moderate burns, which the forest just experienced, obviating the logging's claimed purpose. 3/4
While these stands were cut, others are still on the chopping block. We’re working to stop the logging and ensure transparency by public agencies managing public lands. Looking at you, @forestservice. 4/4
