3years ago I was in this incredible room about to have a Sicilian lunch with colleagues. Two of the people at the table that day, have passed in the last 18mos. When these FB memories pop up, it hits hard. Immense trauma & loss many have suffered

5 neighbors who have died, 28local seniors in our village LTC. Fathers to two beloved Italian families. Processing death claims. One was a cancer patient who couldn’t access care. A dear Uncle in Rome.

A family friend who was in hospital for 5mos, now walks with a cane. Next door neighbor was vented, now has portable oxygen is still recovering. Neighbor across the street is a surgeon, his family beyond stressed. Dear friend, trying to protect her parents.

A nightmare. Those first days, standing in the sleet in parking lot for groceries. A belligerent man yelling conspiracy theories defiantly. Making people more terrified. Store owners dragging him from coughing on people.

These things we’ve seen, heard. These stories aren’t told. I don’t believe people when they say, it’s a hoax, or they don’t know anyone who died or suffered. It’s because they refuse to see. It’s why I’m so angry, beyond frustrated.
God, how I despise them for prolonging this

And I’m going to become more enraged when things do go back to normal. Seeing these monsters of hate & lies, slipping back into life as though they haven’t harmed & trampled on many. I don’t believe in karma, but I had hoped there’d have been repercussions

My husband is taking his elderly father back to Rome, to see his sisters while he can. His brother-in-law turned 90 during all this. His other BIL died of covid. My FIL almost didn’t survive himself. So much regret, loss. Don’t wait too long to see those you ❤️
