SUMMARY | THREAD ⬇️
FC Barcelona General Assembly.

🔹576 members were present during the meeting.
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Welcome Socios, we will observe a minute of silence for the deceased members.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Thank you for coming to one of the most important meetings in our history, I want to start the meeting clearly: we know that we want more, we want championships, we are Barça and we want to go back to being a reference.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Today, decisive decisions will be taken. You are the owners of this club and we, the board of directors, will decide what Barcelona is like in this era.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Barça is in your hands, more than ever. This is good news because it means that Barça is a sports club and is not owned by any other party, nor by a country or financier, Barcelona owns itself. Barca will always be owned by its members.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Today, more than ever, Barcelona is in our hands, we have to make decisions for ourselves, which will affect us, and also the future generations of Barça fans.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We depend only on ourselves and you can rest assured that while we are running the club, things will continue like this.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We have the worst numbers in the club's history, with a deficit of €60 million. When we arrived, we couldn't even pay our salaries.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Today we present to you the conclusion of the 2020/21 season. These are the worst numbers in Barcelona's history. €1,350 million debt and zero cash flow, that's what we found.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “The responsibilities will be assessed upon the completion of our audit. Our CEO said we'll have it in a month. Because of the shortcomings of the previous administration, the audit committee also evaluates irregular behaviour.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We need each of you, we need everyone who represents Barcelona, and who is proud to belong to this club.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “In difficult moments, Barcelona fans have always shown up, today is no exception.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We have a plan to develop FC Barcelona over the next five years.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We want to rely on La Masia again and see a lot of La Masia players playing in the first team.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We want to increase the club's revenue and determine the salary scale. However, because of the bad numbers we have right now, we have to keep working towards reducing the salaries and contracts that were signed by the previous administration.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “The second phase of our plan is to make Barcelona a huge brand amongst European clubs.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “The third stage is to focus on the field of social relations.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We want to work to promote the values of democracy, fight racial discrimination, fight sexism, and fight transphobia.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Between the 21/22 & 25/26 season, We want to return FC Barcelona to the place it should be: A multi-sport club, more than just a club.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We have to decide what Barcelona will look like in this century. The Espai Barca project will help with this.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We ask you to give us your confidence in order to make this project a reality.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “Espai Barça's impact on the city will be similar to that of the '92 Olympics. I ask for your confidence to support the project that will make us stand on an equal footing with the strong clubs that dominate the world.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We're risking our reputation and working hard. If we make a wrong decision, it is not because of our bad faith or corruption on our part. We are here to save Barcelona.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “The numbers show that we should reduce expenditures. On the other hand, Espai Barça will enable us to increase revenues.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “One of the items on the agenda is this legal reform. The form of the club's management must change and adapt to the current era. We will vote each article separately.”
🗣️ Barça member: “The previous administration tortured us, they should be sued for endangering the safety of the fans during 21 matches in 2019 and 2020 when the stadium was not safe.”
🗣️ Barça member: “Why look back? let's look forward, you are brave and you have to move forward, stop looking back. Now we have to move forward.”
🗣️ Barça member: “Mr President, I saw the numbers and I almost fell. Go to trial and we will accompany you.”
🗣️ Barça member: “My pension is 800 euros but I can give 1000 euros to help the club out.”
🗣️ Barça member: “I think we should have a public auditor, we can't mix things up. Auditors have to give their opinion, and that happens in all big companies. I ask for uniform standards in every accounting practice.”
🗣️ Barça member: “We can't let Bartomeu and his comrades go free. Of course we have to look back, this is the way forward. I suggest that Mr. Laporta considers the possibility of expelling Bartomeu and his board as members of the club for a very serious breach of statute.”
🗣️ Barça member: “Dear members of the board of directors, how does Bartomeu leave with 450 million losses? Please do something!”
🗣️ Barça member: “It is not possible for someone who leaves all this debt to leave quietly, it is heinous. I ask that what needs to be done is done, that they do not stop!”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “The first intervention was about the requirements of responsibilities, and there were many of them. I can assure you, I am not late. I would only do so with full knowledge of the facts, with all the evidence required by a court of law.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “As soon as the forensic evidence is issued, which proves that the previous board is guilty, we will present it directly to the court.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We will decide together; you are free to choose what to do and what to avoid.”
‼️ Joan Laporta announces that as soon as all the information and figures of Bartomeu's term are available, they will invite the members to another meeting in order to decide whether to take legal action against Bartomeu or not.
@BarcaWorldwide 🗣️ Joan Laporta: “What we want is to arm ourselves with reasons, we don't want to go to court without evidence.”
@BarcaWorldwide 🗣️ Joan Laporta: “#BarçaGate? We had to change lawyers as we want a lawyer who will defend the interests of Barcelona over the interests of the previous managers. I don't want to be careless and explain half-truths, what they tell me is that we will call more people to testify.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We are at the top and we will fight against an administration that we think is criminal. This is in response to people who talk about the responsibility of former directors. We will organize another member meeting when we have the results of the forensic audit.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “I don't want to go into the evaluation of Mr. Tebas' offices, the club's management must adapt to the current times.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “We will have to help each other a lot; we will hold many member meetings as I want to listen to you. We will support each other to agree on a major legal reform.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “I think it is inappropriate for me to ask you to contribute financially for the implementation of certain projects. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “I thank all of you who came to one of our most important gatherings in history. We are representatives, legally and ethically. Some could not come. In the future we will try to create new systems to represent the club.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “As long as I am the president of FC Barcelona, the club will be owned by its members.”
🗣️ Joan Laporta: “I met with Haaland's agent, but at that time the situation was not like it is now. We are Barcelona and we still have the desire to bring in players.”

🔹La Liga & CVC Capital Partners, a private equity and investment advisory firm, recently agreed (verbally) upon a €2.7 billion deal, selling 10% of La Liga's stake.

🔸La Liga lost a fortune due to the #COVID19 pandemic & this forced them to accept private investments.

[2/21]
🔹For the first time, private equity will be running a major Football League.

🔸Earlier this year, the European Elite clubs got together and formed the Super League with the help of a similar investment deal with JP Morgan.

What you didn't know about the CVC–LaLiga deal & the long-term effects it would have had on Barcelona.

🔸From the beginning it looked like a great deal as La Liga would sell 10% of rights for €2.7b with €284m going Barcelona's way.

⬇️ THREAD – Explanation

🔹This looked like a great deal and would solve all registration problems (including Messi) and even some money for transfers and paying debts.

🔸However, due to this deal, Barcelona would have to pay more than €800m over 50 years while only receiving €284m this summer.
🔹There was also a clause that blocked the Super League in the contract that Barcelona would sign.

🔸La Liga’s proposal:
“Accept this deal or there is no chance for you to register Lionel Messi.”

🔹Laporta’s answer was NO!
