Sir David Amess had a stalker during the 2017 general election campaign.

Why his story reveals the vital role police play in securing MPs’ safety

My analysis for @SkyNews @ 10
Sir David Amess revealed the story of the stalker in the Commons chamber in 2019. Here’s what he said Image
There have been so many stories of MPs upset with the police for failing to take their stories of threats and harassment seriously

They go into more detail with us off the record, since they don’t want to fuel the flames or get into a public row with police

Here’s one: Image
Priti Patel is concerned about the “postcode lottery” of MPs safety, I understand Image
What happens next with MPs safety?

Fascinated by gvt response to tonight's @skynews story

DIT spokesman: "This is not Government policy, and is not being considered by ministers."

Yet..... look closely: they noticeably woudn't say the reverse - that they *will* put environmental goals before the economy
2/ In essence the government is *again* simply trying to call the story fake news rather than engage in the substance

Ministers are reluctant to talk about specific trade offs in trade deals, and just pretend they aren't happening.

They *could* chose to justify their approach.
3/ The thing about this leak

is that the approach it recommends has many supporters.

But secrecy is supreme in trade deals. We still don't know what's in the Australia trade deal. And HMG doesn't like to talk about them.

So leaks become important

V important argument from @KwasiKwarteng about ministers attitude to current disruption.

The economy is in a “transition” after brexit away from the “low wage high immigration economy”, some sectors like haulage are resisting and government must “tough it out”
