The greatness of General Colin Powell’s life, service and achievements are worth deep reflection from the whole of the nation at this moment when the great soldier, statesman and patriot has completed his
“American Journey” Where did such a man come from? At the most basic
level, he came from Maud and Luther Powell, Jamaican immigrants, a clerk and a seamstress who settled in the South Bronx. Maybe that is worth remembering when the dividers preach an unAmerican gospel of nativism and racial exclusion. He is the only American military officer
from the latter half of the 20th century whose accomplishments and service can be compared to George Marshall’s. Powell played a leading role in rebuilding the US Military in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and was the singularly most important individual in rebuilding trust
between the American people and the military, making it the most trusted institution in the United States. He helped humanity take a giant step backwards from the possibility of Nuclear Armageddon and stood as a paragon of probity, rectitude, dignity, wisdom and service.
His life was a testimony to the power of excellence. He was a truly great American. His character, courage, fortitude and grace are waypoints for Americans of goodwill to follow through the interminable darkness and stench of this rotten season in our long shared story.

I hope people will watch this documentary piece. SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Adolph Eichmann was the recording secretary at the Wannsee Conference on January 20, 1942. It was at this meeting presided over by Heydrich that the “Final Solution” was sanctified as a moral necessity,
a defensive act and a lawful exercise of power. It lasted 90 minutes and was the most consequential convocation of evil in world history. It begat humanities greatest crime. The man who interrogated Eichmann in Israel was named Avner Less. He reflected on the experience in an
Interview a generation later in the early 1980’s. Responding to a question, he said the experience changed his perspective on everything, most importantly, his belief in democracy as the only way to protect humanity from the monsters among us. He explained that there
Facebook will rebrand. It will have a new name. The name is a secret. Even the most senior people do not know the new secret name. Silicon Valley PR flacks are abuzz. It’s smart, textbook. All the best PR and Comms firms are on it. It will be like magic. A new name and POOF! 1/
What? The threats to democracy go away? The algorithmic poisoning of people with misinformation, conspiracies and insanity doesn’t stop with a new name. The spread of extremism isn’t slowed by a new name. The damage done to children and the fracturing of society into hateful
tribes who have succumb to the lies of division and disunion won’t stop. In the end, it is all nonsense. I think Zuckerberg’s vision of the “Metaverse” is monstrous and frightening and there should be some deep reflection as a society about the implications of all this.
Control and Collisions. Bannon has no control in this situation. Zero. None. It is all posturing. A collision has been set in motion but the inevitable crash will not be of the Marvel movie variety. It will resemble something more akin to a naval collision in broad daylight.
It will develop clearly and in plain sight. The trajectory of the collision will reveal itself early and it will unfold with a type of slow motion inevitability. Bannon is looking to martyr himself. What greater act of loyalty could there be than to become a self proclaimed
political prisoner in the name of Trump? After all, if the glory of MAGA martyrdom requires time in the Federal Pokey, who is Bannon to resist. Surely he can’t believe that the Committee isn’t serious about enforcing them? @RepAdamSchiff@RepRaskin and @BennieGThompson
When I have had occasion to prepare people for television appearances I give them the following advice. There are only three types of questions. 1. I KNOW 2. I THINK 3. I FEEL questions. Bad answers are almost always a result of responses that are misaligned by category. (1)
Most people prepare for big interviews by talking and rehearsing speech, which is the wrong approach given that listening is the essential skill. Answering an “I know” question with “I feel” answers can make the interviewee seem flaky. Likewise, answering “I feel”questions with
an “ I know structure” can make the interviewee seem autocratic and arrogant. Relying, on “I think” answers to questions built around eliciting “ I know” to “I feel” responses can leave the interviewee seeming indecisive, weak or lacking empathy. Remember, there are only three
I’d like to unpack this interview and critique it from the perspective of someone who has been involved in many corporate crisis situations. The Harvard Law graduate, Bickert, is clearly viewed as the best and most credible spokesperson at Facebook. She is senior enough
and credentialed enough to insulate Zuckerberg and Sandberg from the building stories. She is skilled at making declarative assertions that sound credible, real, believable and responsible at first blush. Her confidence and assertiveness quickly pull the interview into a
discussion about Facebook process. The quagmire that results is purposeful. The answers are supposed to be stultifying, boring, inaccessible and incomprehensible. She is skilled at delivering an authoritative, “Don’t worry about it, I got this. We got this. Trust us. We have
Here you can watch @SRuhle throw a question that deeply disorients Antigone Davis. She is the Facebook Global Head of Safety. A bit Orwellian n’est pas? How should we think about her public lying and the damage her company is doing to children all over the world? First, there
is no question that she knows her answer is an evasion. It is as deeply dishonest as the answers Cigarette spokesman used to give around how benign the smokes were. It is as deeply dishonest as anything that comes out of the mouth of an NRA spokesperson. Every parent knows our
children are harmed by the unscrupulousness and greed of these giant companies. These companies must be brought to heel. They are immensely damaging to American society and our future. Facebook has built an Algorithmic Gulag Archipelago that imprisons the mind by assaulting
