In an effort to investigate fraud, CA passed a law, requiring charitable nonprofits that solicit donations in the state to confidentially submit their IRS Schedule B forms to regulators, identifying donors who gave $5,000 or more.

If you’re wondering why an organization like the ACLU would join forces with Charles Koch to protect dark money groups, you can read their thread here, where they provide the same reasoning to oppose the dark money provision in the For The People Act.
In order to fight against injustice on an unlevel playing field, groups like the ACLU developed this model, allowing them to anonymously fund teams of lawyers and activists to fight for civil rights.
Now, the right is using that model against democracy itself.

Do we believe that efforts to change society - for better and for worse - should be undertaken in an open and transparent way?
Or do we believe those battles should be fought with secretly funded teams of lawyers and activists?

ADF (Alliance Defending Freedom), created decades ago, is a collection of attorneys organized to work cases that roll back civil rights. It is fundamentalists’ ‘answer’ to the ACLU.
Here is a sampling of extremist efforts that ADF supports or advocates.
Not only has AT&T been propping up OAN, it appears they have been overpaying them as well.
