This morning we're pondering what would need to happen to get rid of the filbuster.
If Dems could miraculously get Sinema and Manchin behind the effort, what are the steps to removing the filibuster?
Here's what would happen next.

(2) Let's make sure we're on the same page about WHAT the filibuster is. It's a Senate cloture rule requiring 60 members to end debate & move to a vote.
And given the ever-widening partisan divide, it's the source of a lot of gridlock in Washington.
(3) Dems have several options for manuevering past the filibuster. And it doesn't mean they'd have to shelve the rule entirely. They could place restrictions on its use.
Currently the cloture rule doesn't apply to budget reconciliaton and nominations.
(6) The other option would be to create a "mini-nuke." rule. A much smaller weapon that allows Dems to suspend the filibuster only for certain kinds of votes or motions.
But this approach still provides a path for Republicans to obstruct legislation.
(7) Another option is to weaken the Byrd Rule, which specifies what can be part of the budget reconciliation process which is exempt from the filibuster.
Or Dems could ignore the Senate parliamentarian and proceed, undercutting the Byrd Rule.
(8) Nullifying the filibuster is still pretty controversial among moderates, including Sinema and Manchin. But there is widespread consensus that the filibuster needs to change.
Sen. Merkley has been pushing for filibuster reform for the last decade.
(9) There is strong support to return to a "talking filibuster" requiring members to hold the floor. However, many warn that it may not be enough to curtail use of the filibuster.
Even Biden seems to have soured on it recently as a solution.
(10) Weakening the Byrd rule or setting a new Senate precedent seem to be the most plausible way forward for Dems seeking to curtail use of the filibuster.
But they better do it soon because voting rights (and climate change) won't wait.
Voting in my local elections is a frustrating exercise in figuring out which Republican isn’t QAnon that I can vote for. #RedStateProblems
Lots of replies don’t seem to understand what red states are like.
There are NO independents or Dems running in my local districts.
None. Zip. Nada.
The best use of my vote is to make sure extremists don’t get to hold office.
The funniest part is we moved to rank choice voting for some reason so I literally get to choose which flavor of Republican I find least objectionable on a weird gradient. Sigh.
This Sunday morning we're asking the age-old question. WHY DOES POSTMASTER DEJOY STILL HAVE A JOB AND WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?
I've answered this question several times previously but it's worth revisiting because some dynamics on the USPS board are shifting.
(THREAD)
(2) If you want to see background on why Biden can't fire DeJoy, you can visit this thread from back in February. Eseentially only the board can remove DeJoy.
And per usual we've got a DINO standing in the way of progress.
(3) We've been bitching about DeJoy for YEARS, but this is coming to a head as strategic changes at the USPS to slow mail delivery and raise prices take effect October 1st.
Western states will see mail delivery slowed to speeds not seen since the 1970s.
(3) Most of the refugees trying to enter the US have been living in South America in encampments for years. Their country has been devastated by hurricanes, earthquakes, political instability, and violent crime.
In today's thread we're taking a peak into the dark corner of the internet that is Facebook. Is anyone trying to do anything about the threats unregulated social media platforms pose?
Is Facebook going to be allowed to continue to poison us with misinformation?

(2) One of the items Biden's FCC was set to tackle is what to do about tech giants.
After the role Facebook played in disinformation campaigns ahead of the 2016 election, it's clear we have to do something. And anti-trust laws aren't going to cut it.
(3) Facebook knew this moment was coming and tried to position itself for the new era of accountability by suggesting some measures they could impose for better self regulation.
Basically a laundry list of relatively ineffective stuff they already do.
