Here we learn that the last Trump OCC boss, @BrianBrooksUS gave a secret legal imprimatur to allowing banks to hold cryptocurrency -- a wild-west asset if there ever was one -- under certain circumstances. 2/7
On on level, it's garden-variety Trump-era corruption. Brooks was chief legal officer @coinbase before becoming Acting Comptroller, and after he left, he was CEO of @binance for 3 months (Why the short tenure?) 3/7
On another, it's a reason why we need Omarova as Comptroller. She authored a pathbreaking paper, "The Quiet Metamorphosis" that outlined how the OCC let banks get into derivatives, an early aughts process that flung the doors open to the Wall Street casino 4/7

After #PirateEquity🏴‍☠️ firm Francisco Partners bought technology company Sandvine, they fired staff, replaced leadership and started dealing with surveillance states & dictatorships

Between 2018-20, Sandvine raked in $100M from countries with horrible human rights track records
Last year, Belarus used technology provided by Sandvine to shut down the news websites, block social media platforms, and ban messaging apps while torturing protestors nationwide.

Sandvine asked for the product back too late — the damage had been done.
