That state down there on the bottom right corner of the NYT COVID hotspot map? The one that's now done with COVID? That's the state DeSantis is inviting any out-of-state officers to move to & telling them their vax status doesn't matter for their job. I dunno. Seems not that bad?

I used teh googles & found that it costs about $100K & 18mo to fully train a new police officer, from recruit to cop. So DeSantis's $5K offer ploy sounds pretty savvy. This is info you might learn from the article if the point of it weren't culture war. policefoundation.org/recruiting-sel…

This vax mandate issue is difficult & divisive, so I honestly think that since we have federalism here in the US, leaning into it by encouraging people to move to places where the rules fit their risk tolerance + liberty ideals is the way.

If people in NY & NJ are that set on cops having the vaccine, then I imagine they don't want cops working who don't have it, so resignations are 👍. I also imagine that said unvaccinated folks leaving the state is 👍. So why be mad about those cops getting a job elsewhere?

You don't want unvaxed cops working, & you don't even want unvaxed people in the state at all, so why be mad that some other state is offering them money & a job to get out of a place where they're not wanted?

(We all know the answer: because it's about culture war, not health).
