The architecture of the present crisis and the ominous waypoints ahead are clear. No matter the outcome of the next Presidential election, the GOP nominee, likely Trump, will refuse to concede a clear defeat. Allegations of fraud will be made without evidence.
GOP officials will be prepared to act in furtherance of that lie at all levels of government including State Legislatures and the Congress. It is important to remember that the people stealing the election won’t announce their intentions as such. They will lie about an election
being stolen in the name of fairness, in defense of democracy and for the cause of freedom. Violence and Mayhem will certainly result from this repudiation of patriotism and the Constitution. The chances of success for a successful coup, foe which there was a plan and WH meetings
in 2020 will be much higher in 2024. Should an autocratic faction that has abandoned its commitment to elections, the rule of law, decency, reality, pluralism, equality and the US Constitution come to power in America again, whether legitimately or not, there will be
one last chance to decisively turn back from the abyss and vote them out. The ultimate crisis will come when Trump or whoever refuses to yield power after the will of the people is asserted. Both crisis are within view of where we sit today. Democracy in this country requires
we start talking about it again. Democracies are the only form of government that have ever existed where the power of the State is subordinated and placed below, not above, the dignity and freedom of the individual human being. Rage, division, disunion and the obliteration of
civility, comity and goodwill have reached a dangerous place in the American society. Giant companies like Facebook have metastasized into Democracy killers. Their algorithms have radicalized and poisoned people with misinformation and erected the superstructure of a dystopia
where the lie and truth stand equal and indistinguishable from one another. Zuckerberg believes that he is a victim. Imagine that. He is one of the most powerful people in the world and way high on the list of people doing profound damage to not just democracy and teenagers but
the harmony of society. He is no victim and neither is his company. What comes next for us is all but written on a wall. We should take the time to heed the warning staring us in the face. Future generations will judge this moment on our response. I hope we measure up.

Even Steve Bannon, arguably America’s greatest sloboramus, wore business attire in the WH. I’ve heard tell that US Senator Krysten Sinema likes to compare herself to John McCain. Personally, I think he would have been amused by the F*** Off ring. He would have had an aneurysm
if he walked out on the floor of the United States Senate and saw the Presiding Officer, a Freshman, dressed like that. It’s a purposeful act of contempt and disrespect towards an institution that was desecrated less than a year ago by insurrectionists. It’s a petulant scream,
a rebellion about nothing. Decorum matters in places and spaces that exist because of sacrifices that beggar imagination. Disrespect isn’t a virtue, it’s a poison. Specifically, it assaults dignity which is an essential gateway towards all of the noble virtues and qualities of
I can’t recommend the @ceciliakang and @sheeraf book about Facebook “An Ugly Truth” more highly. Here is why. There are powerful forces that are shaping the future of our American society. Facebook has grown in a short span of years into a giant and powerful global company
worth a trillion dollars. The shareholders have gotten rich while the culture has gotten sick. It is not a trade off the voters should sanctify. For many of us, watching Congressional technology hearings is like zoom coaching our parents. One thing is perfectly clear and it is
this. Zuckerberg and crew have a much better grasp of what the world will look like with the technology they are creating than do the politicians tasked with controlling them and protecting us. What Zuckerberg and Sandberg have created is an endorphin release technology that
I hope people will watch this documentary piece. SS Obersturmbannfuhrer Adolph Eichmann was the recording secretary at the Wannsee Conference on January 20, 1942. It was at this meeting presided over by Heydrich that the “Final Solution” was sanctified as a moral necessity,
a defensive act and a lawful exercise of power. It lasted 90 minutes and was the most consequential convocation of evil in world history. It begat humanities greatest crime. The man who interrogated Eichmann in Israel was named Avner Less. He reflected on the experience in an
Interview a generation later in the early 1980’s. Responding to a question, he said the experience changed his perspective on everything, most importantly, his belief in democracy as the only way to protect humanity from the monsters among us. He explained that there
Facebook will rebrand. It will have a new name. The name is a secret. Even the most senior people do not know the new secret name. Silicon Valley PR flacks are abuzz. It’s smart, textbook. All the best PR and Comms firms are on it. It will be like magic. A new name and POOF! 1/
What? The threats to democracy go away? The algorithmic poisoning of people with misinformation, conspiracies and insanity doesn’t stop with a new name. The spread of extremism isn’t slowed by a new name. The damage done to children and the fracturing of society into hateful
tribes who have succumb to the lies of division and disunion won’t stop. In the end, it is all nonsense. I think Zuckerberg’s vision of the “Metaverse” is monstrous and frightening and there should be some deep reflection as a society about the implications of all this.
The greatness of General Colin Powell’s life, service and achievements are worth deep reflection from the whole of the nation at this moment when the great soldier, statesman and patriot has completed his
“American Journey” Where did such a man come from? At the most basic
level, he came from Maud and Luther Powell, Jamaican immigrants, a clerk and a seamstress who settled in the South Bronx. Maybe that is worth remembering when the dividers preach an unAmerican gospel of nativism and racial exclusion. He is the only American military officer
from the latter half of the 20th century whose accomplishments and service can be compared to George Marshall’s. Powell played a leading role in rebuilding the US Military in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and was the singularly most important individual in rebuilding trust
Control and Collisions. Bannon has no control in this situation. Zero. None. It is all posturing. A collision has been set in motion but the inevitable crash will not be of the Marvel movie variety. It will resemble something more akin to a naval collision in broad daylight.
It will develop clearly and in plain sight. The trajectory of the collision will reveal itself early and it will unfold with a type of slow motion inevitability. Bannon is looking to martyr himself. What greater act of loyalty could there be than to become a self proclaimed
political prisoner in the name of Trump? After all, if the glory of MAGA martyrdom requires time in the Federal Pokey, who is Bannon to resist. Surely he can’t believe that the Committee isn’t serious about enforcing them? @RepAdamSchiff@RepRaskin and @BennieGThompson
