Billionaires will literally journey to dead planets to avoid paying a fraction of their wealth to allow us to fix the one we have.
The number of people who think that The Singular Genius Of Elon Musk™️ means humanity is ready to make Mars habitable when we can't even agree to the much MUCH cheaper and easier task of keeping our habitable planet habitable is ... not encouraging.
"Billionaires will terraform Mars for us using technology they will invent with their billionaire brains."
"Let's avoid climate catastrophe instead."
"Fine to say that but how to PAY?"
"By taxing billionaires."
"Oh that's unrealistic."
People have convinced themselves that the solution to our problems is letting billionaires take precious metals out of asteroids but can't imagine a world in which we can take money out of billionaires.
Anyway there's no way Elon isn't hoping to stage a Squid Game on Mars.
A single person’s taxes funding the government for 1/6 of the year seems like a pretty amazing case for taxing 5 more like him.

Both Sides, Part 3: License

"Narcissists demand permission. They usually get it.

'Both sides' is an effective permission delivery system for narcissists—and a preferred one."

To define in 3 rules what I mean when I say "license":

1. An idea has “license” if it is so commonly accepted that expressing it, or any other ideas or activities premised in it, carries no expectation of reputational damage or social penalty—consequences we could call reproach.
So, here’s a rather important question: who bestows license?
Here’s a rather important answer: The people who hold some measure of control over another person’s reputations, relationships, and careers.

Biden's pitch to America was that Republicans would come around and stop being an existential threat to democracy and world peace when Trump was gone.

They didn't.

He must come up with a new plan for dealing with the existential threat that Republicans represent and enact it.
1) Yes, vote. Of course vote.

2) But this is a nonsense answer. We did vote. This is the time between. We get to expect things now. And it must be now b/c ...

3) A key component of the existential threat is the fact that the Republicans are PLANNING TO IGNORE ELECTION RESULTS. Replying to @JuliusGoat: I ...
People out there who seem to believe that "realism" equates to unquestioning satisfaction with any Democratic action exhibit an almost religious belief that everything they do is a part of a perfect strategy that always returns the best possible result.

I cannot relate.

Make it a $12 trillion package, put everything back in, and run it every single day.

Every single night, address the nation and name each person who voted against it, and each thing that they were opposing.

Make their unwillingness to do the work of the people their problem.
Billboards. Road signs. Bumper stickers. The sides of barns. Hire skywriters and publish the things that are going up for a vote every day, and the people who are preventing it from happening.

These Are The Senators Who Refuse To Do Their Jobs
Frame it as what it is, which is refusing to work. Refusing to find solutions to problems. Existing only to prolong suffering. Stealing paychecks and taking bribes.

These Are The Senators Who Refuse To Work

List the names.

The far right is mainstream Republicanism and it intends violent suppression of all aspects of free open modern society, and our only real choice is whether we fight them in power or out of power.
When someone is trying to stab you, you don’t get to choose whether or not someone is trying to stab you. Your choice is what to do about it.

Republicans intend harm. It’s not subtle.
Using unfounded conspiratorial claims of pedophilia as a self-justifying rationale for anti-societal, anti-democratic terror also isn't a far-right position, but it is a far-right tactic, and an increasingly prevalent one.

AMA about Dune, a book I have never read whose film adaptations I haven’t seen.
Even two weeks later I’m still digging it out of everything.
Until observed, they’re here and there.

Chappelle approaching the repeated complaints of an extremely marginalized community with the thoughtfulness and self-reflection of a medieval king petitioned by unruly peasants.
It's really sad to see this.
Hopefully none of us would be OK with a comic, even an otherwise marginalized comic (like say a trans comic), even one known for speaking truth to power, deciding for 4 sequential specials to do bits on how they saw the struggle for Black liberation as a "hilarious predicament." Image
