I wonder if Internet conspiracy researchers ever do a deep dive and then realize “oh these people are actually pretty much trying to do good.”
If you’re tuning in now from some elaborate plot to ruin me—

Hi My Name is Garry Tan. I grew up in the SF Bay Area. I grew up food insecure at times, child of Chinese immigrants who struggled in a new and unfamiliar land.
We lived in apartments. I got my first job at the age of 14 by cold calling the Internet section since I taught myself how to make websites.

I used those earnings to help pay my parents down payment for our first home. It was the American Dream.
Tech has given me everything in my life. I am lucky. I have seen more than $100B of startups born, from the earliest moment.

I want that for everyone. I want us to have prosperity. Doesn’t matter where you come from or what you look like.
I have always been and likely will always be a Democrat.

San Francisco has stressed this mightily because we don’t have a functioning local government.
Many of you reading now are fighting battles in places that are possibly quite red. The nation is torn apart. I know this and feel that pain.

SF is not that battle. Here we see Asian grandmas in the streets being stabbed. Open drug use and dealing. No access to housing.
The public schools that let me study algebra in 7th grade are now inaccessible to public school children in San Francisco.

I needed to study Calculus by 12th grade to get into a strong engineering school. That’s what I needed. But public school kids don’t get that anymore.
I know many of you disagree. But this isn’t an elaborate plot. I am not an elected official. I’m just one person.

SF is in pain. We are looking for solutions. We are trying.
I have tried not to work on this. The easier thing is for me to focus on my work and family. I work with hundreds of startups that each have the chance to solve real problems. I don’t make money from any of my involvement in politics and don’t intend to at all.
If you read all of this and still think I am working on some insane and evil plot, know that isn’t what I’m trying to do. Best wishes to anyone who reads this.

Please be well and have a wonderful Halloween.

Corrupt SF supervisors say the quiet part out loud now, freely and in the open

“Pay our corrupt nonprofit sponsors (whose staff work for the supervisor’s election campaign) or else”

This should be illegal. In any other part of the world this is graft.
This nonprofit racket is a part of the Peskin-Preston extremist political machine

It’s everywhere. If you are looking for a big driver of how we got here, this is the machine to investigate

Instagram long term cohort retention between 50% to 75% for D90 is still amazing

It means 90 days after signup 50% to 75% of teens are still using it

For anyone building consumer social, this benchmark is the stat to beat

I love how 51% is yellow status (that is still v high!)
I wonder what the D90 for heroin is

Maybe only slightly higher than Instagram for teens
What is minimum viable? About 20% and you can still be a global top app

Dear Chesa,

I grew up food insecure and working class in the SF Bay Area. This is my home. I am one of the largest donors to your recall.

I’m not leaving but after this recall election, you are.

Kindly,

Want to see billionaire dark money? Soros, Hastings, Real Money PAC, SEIU

I have received the texts. Pretty sure if you live in SF you have too. Grassroots Law is a national group funneling Shaun King money. The volunteers are all east coast.
This was the diverse women-led Democrat-led organizing committee turning in recall petition signatures last week

There is real hope in SF because we can’t let the far left continue to destroy this city

Former SF prosecutor: “The priority first was public perception, the 2nd priority was incarcerated people… the victims of crime did not count among his priorities unless it helped public perception.”

Chesa Boudin must be recalled for us to be safe.

sfchronicle.com/sf/bayarea/hea…
Remember in January when we compared him to bad PMs at big tech companies? All talk no action, just focus on being promoted?

When your own team is leaving in droves, that bad PM gets the axe.

Perception is not what Boudin should manage. It is helping victims get justice.
This is not public service.

This is another level of sociopathy.

The result is unsafe SF streets where we don’t know when we will be robbed or worse.

We get ideology instead of what we deserve: a strong leader who can bring criminal justice reform while keeping us safe.
