So I am reading a fascinating book by @jessnordell and it occurred to me that the media broadcasting Trump's rallies and the interviews with the white supremacists functioned like the Hutu radio station in Rwanda changing American cultural norms to approve overt racism & violence
She makes no such claim. It just struck me that the media's fascination with interviewing the extremists in the clown car has normalized clowns. They interview anti-vaxxers and spread anti-vax ignorance. They interview fraud believers and spread that conspiracy.
They are creating an "everybody does it" approval of racist violence, insurrection, vigilantism, and vaccine denial.

Consider this: Image
The media need to be interviewing the workers who are relieved that their former colleagues are no longer putting them at risk.

They need to be interviewing people who are offended by partisan hacks calling their votes illegitimate.

Focus on norms, not extremists.
Right now, the American media relentlessly cultivates extremism and invalidates longstanding norms. They are creating an "everybody does it" road to insurrection, vigilance, and fascism.

I know the punditry and the consultant class will be telling us that Democrats have to withdraw our positions on civil rights, police reform, and more to persuade the white working class to vote with us. To that, I say bullshit.

We do not need to stoop to pandering to racism
We need to identify the white voters who are persuadable. We need not troll for MAGAs but for those who were influenced by lies to swing from D to R. It means being more confrontational, not less. We need to be confrontational with the media that amplifies these conspiracies
In the past, the media did not seek out the John Birchers because they were cranks and they were not newsworthy. Now the media seeks out the cranks and makes them seem mainstream by repeated exposure. They reified anti-mask, anti-vax, and Q conspiracies.

I love music and listen to it every day. There are some artists I love who are not as well known as they should be. Ted Hawkins is the top of my list of unrecognized genius. His first major album was only released a year before he died. He was still a street performer.
The LA Times did a story about him two years before he died. He had a rough life. From neglect and abuse as a child, in and out of prison, but he always sang.

This song is a cover of Webb Pierce's "There Stands the Glass." This song gives me chills. No one does it as well.

When I was attending Macalester College, the Mac Feminists were a small part of a huge counter rally to a group of anti-choice zealots who planned a rally. I went. There were several hundred of us. There were 15 anti-choice protester. The St. Paul Pioneer Press covered the rally
The used a picture closely cropped to show only the anti-choice fanatics. The headline said Pro-Life Protests Draws Big Crowds. The said there were several hundred people there. They did not say the several hundred were counter-protesters giving the false impression of only antis
Since then, when people say, why aren't there people speaking out...I remember how completely the St. Paul Pioneer Press erased our counter-protest, rendering us invisible and unheard while exaggerating and amplifying the anti-choice rally. It was propaganda pure & simple

If I had a magic wand
a) I would institute healthcare for all with a public/private mix at no cost to anyone, completely financed by government with localized oversight.
b) monthly subsidy per child
c) universal pre-k
d) equalized funding for fully funded K-12
e) free tuition at community colleges, state colleges, & universities.
f) Zero-interest loans and more grants for private universities.
g) Revoke qualified immunity for abuse, violence, harm
h) National voter registration/vote-by-mail
i) National use of force standards, mandatory reporting of police violence/abuse

And I could go on and on and on with all I want.

But I am happy that we are getting what we are getting, reversing decades of disinvestment in the public sphere.

If I disappear for a few days, it's because I am getting my shingles, flu, and COVID booster today. I checked with doc and it's okay to do them all but she said I might feel under the weather for a few days.
I've never had a bad reaction before, so I will probably be fine, but...
So I don't have to explain multiple times. I am disabled. I find the LIFT painful because it shakes and jolts too much. So my friend it taking me. I like to ask for as few rides as possible to not be a burden. So, groceries, prescriptions, & vaccines all in one trip. I have to
get the 2nd Shingrex which is supposed to be a doozy and that one will be taken in 6 weeks all on its own.

So for the umpteenth time, local news has interviewed and amplified a person losing their job because they won't get vaccinated. How about the interview the people who did who do not want a breakthrough infection because of these selfish, entitled asswipes?
They always amplify the aberrant, the fringe conspiracists and ignorant, the credulous who believe the snake oil con artists who will grift on their ignorance until they die. They've little interest in the people who mourn those lost to COVID because of these selfish clowns.
The clown show is just so much more fun.
