i just checked: in 2009 when Dems lost NJ and VA gov race during Obama's first year in office, the NYT published one analysis piece, which suggested the defeats may or may not spell trouble for Dems
I think NYT has posted at least 9 articles about VA loss last night
something has happened to our DC press corps.
they now aspire to this
i just checked WashPost site, they currently have 15 pieces up re: Va race. and they all say the same thing
quick thread on why CRT was such an effective campaign lie, aside from appealing to suburban racism 1/
GOP used CRT as a battering ram to hit Dems. but truth is most elected Dems had never heard of CRT and certainly weren’t supporters of it being taught in schools, esp to young students 2/
Meaning, there was no natural Dem instinct to get into the CRT debut and forcefully debunk claims abt it being taught 3/
“Was Maggie Haberman right? Had the press and the Times done a sterling job educating the public about Build Back Better? The answer is no, according to Nexis.”
“The press is in heated agreement that Biden is to blame for Americans not knowing about the contents of Build Back Better. There’s zero self-reflection involved.”
“What’s happening in Virginia is the press is taking its beloved Dems in Disarray storyline out for a spin and ceaselessly stressing what a political disaster it would be if McAuliffe lost.”
“Do you remember this kind of breathless coverage in advance of the Georgia run-off elections in January, when GOP faced the prospect of losing two U.S. Senate seats in a red state? I don’t. In fact, much of the Beltway media assumed Republicans would prevail.”
