Creators are the future of ecommerce.

But the single hardest part of launching a DTC brand is physically making a product.

That's why Pietra, a startup backed by $15M from @rabois and FF is bringing factories into the cloud.

Creator in the front. Supply chain in the back. 🧵
First Why creators? Pietra is betting that a single creator can launch the next best selling product line.

There's some precedent:
George Clooney's Casa Migos ~$1B
Rihanna's Savage X Fenty ~$1B
Kylie Cosmetics ~$1B
The Kardashian's...
And influencers have tools CPGs don't.

They can iterate on DTC products faster and more accurately by going direct to their audience - who is also their customer.

Which color should this sweater be? Post a story and ask
But how does a TikToker or Youtuber even begin to design, manufacture, and ship, and warehouse product?

That's where Pietra comes in. Pietra is bringing factories online to let anyone work with the suppliers used by Addidas, Ralph Lauren, the KKW Beauty.

This is a real problem. I know half a dozen founders in NYC who's 1 bdrm apartments are filled wall to wall with inventory

If you're an influencer you want to be spending your time making content promoting not flying around the world to meet suppliers and negotiate pricing.
On the back end, Pietra aggregates suppliers. It manages shipping, warehousing, and product photography. Each for an added fee.

Most importantly though, it creates a marketplace.

There is no Yelp for suppliers. There is no Resy to book a factory. It's all still email. To Asia.
And even if it wasn't, where would you go today if you wanted to have something manufactured?

To launch in DTC you need to already have contacts with suppliers or hire people who do. It can takes years to launch and tens of thousands of dollars mostly paid to brokers
Shopify built websites so anyone can easily transact and sell online.

Now that's solved and launching with Shopify is easy, how do I actually make a thing?

That's the problem Pietra is solving. Turning the physical into an API. And like ecomm before it, that could massive.

Casai is the coolest LATAM startup you’ve never heard of.

Backed by $48M from a16z’s @astrange they’re using a mix of arbitrage, hardware, and customer obsession to replace AirBnB in emerging markets.

Here’s how it works 👇
.@hellocasai is like a vertical AirBnB

Launched in Mexico City after founder @nicobarawid stayed in one too many airbnbs without WiFi, Casai designs + manages each short term rental they list

WiFi, security, housekeeping, booking - it’s all in house

But what fascinates me is the Win-Win-Win business model

For customers, for building owners, and for Casai

The Problem:

There are beautiful AirBnBs in Mexico City priced at $9-$18 a night.

But knowing nothing about neighborhoods in Mexico City I'd hesitate to stay at one
