🧵 Was at the grocery store today. Ahead of me in line was an elderly man who was having the checker add one item at a time to a small grocery haul as he counted cash in his hand. When it came to the last 3 items - a cucumber, couple tomatoes, & a few potatoes, he was short. 1/

I grabbed the extra $7 out of my wallet and gave it to the checker. “Why would you do that?” He asked me. “Just to help. You need the food.” I said. “I would have done without.” He replied. “I hope someday someone helps you if you need it,” he added. 2/

He thanked me so sweetly and wished me a Happy Thanksgiving and I wished him the same.
What I did not say to him was watching him count his money for a tiny grocery purchase was breaking my heart. And I’m not telling this story for a pat on the back. 3/

I’m telling this story because I want @SenatorSinema and @Sen_JoeManchin and the @GOP to know that every time they block a reduction in prescription drug costs, Medicare expansions, and appropriately taxing the wealthy and corporations, there are REAL consequences. 4/

Each time DINO Manchin worries about people becoming “entitled”, there is a human being who is hungry. Each time DINO Sinema rejects lowering prescription drug costs, there is an elderly person who can’t afford their medicine. 5/

Each time McConnell and Republicans start clutching their pearls over spending, while giving tax & financial breaks to the wealthy, there are working poor families who don’t have heat. Caring for them is NOT Socialism. It’s doing the right thing. 6/

In 2022 and 2024, we must all choose to do the right thing. Democracy itself is on the line. If the GQP gets the House or Senate or the Presidency, Americans WILL suffer and they shouldn’t. We have to do the right thing. Vote Sinema and Manchin OUT. #VoteBlue EVERYWHERE. 7/

I’m not wealthy. I’ll be working 45 years by the time I can retire. But not having that $7 won’t hurt me. Thinking of that elderly man possibly being hungry on a cold night would KILL me. We’re the wealthiest nation on the planet. Isn’t it past time we started acting like it? -/
