𧡠Was at the grocery store today. Ahead of me in line was an elderly man who was having the checker add one item at a time to a small grocery haul as he counted cash in his hand. When it came to the last 3 items - a cucumber, couple tomatoes, & a few potatoes, he was short. 1/
I grabbed the extra $7 out of my wallet and gave it to the checker. βWhy would you do that?β He asked me. βJust to help. You need the food.β I said. βI would have done without.β He replied. βI hope someday someone helps you if you need it,β he added. 2/
He thanked me so sweetly and wished me a Happy Thanksgiving and I wished him the same.
What I did not say to him was watching him count his money for a tiny grocery purchase was breaking my heart. And Iβm not telling this story for a pat on the back. 3/
Iβm telling this story because I want @SenatorSinema and @Sen_JoeManchin and the @GOP to know that every time they block a reduction in prescription drug costs, Medicare expansions, and appropriately taxing the wealthy and corporations, there are REAL consequences. 4/
Each time DINO Manchin worries about people becoming βentitledβ, there is a human being who is hungry. Each time DINO Sinema rejects lowering prescription drug costs, there is an elderly person who canβt afford their medicine. 5/
Each time McConnell and Republicans start clutching their pearls over spending, while giving tax & financial breaks to the wealthy, there are working poor families who donβt have heat. Caring for them is NOT Socialism. Itβs doing the right thing. 6/
In 2022 and 2024, we must all choose to do the right thing. Democracy itself is on the line. If the GQP gets the House or Senate or the Presidency, Americans WILL suffer and they shouldnβt. We have to do the right thing. Vote Sinema and Manchin OUT. #VoteBlue EVERYWHERE. 7/
Iβm not wealthy. Iβll be working 45 years by the time I can retire. But not having that $7 wonβt hurt me. Thinking of that elderly man possibly being hungry on a cold night would KILL me. Weβre the wealthiest nation on the planet. Isnβt it past time we started acting like it? -/

THREAD: We know how critical the @USPS is, especially for this election and we know Trump is trying to steal it. Again. But the right-now, canβt-wait issue is medication. A man said yesterday his cancer meds are 12 days overdue! Life-sustaining Insulin delivery is delayed 1/
which, btw, is rendered useless in heat. Cold pack packaging can only stay cold so long. Roughly 34% of Americans get at least some of their prescriptions by mail. 12% are required to use mail-order by their insurance plans. (source: PubMed.gov - unvetted) 2/
Asthma medication, Epi pens, blood pressure meds, blood thinning (cardiac) meds, anti-depressants - much needed medications are now stalled or severely delayed due to Trumpβs attack on the post office 3/

For those considering voting for Trump, ask yourself these questions: 1. Do you invest in the stock market? 2. Can you save anything toward your kidsβ college? 3. Does your boss come to work in a $150,000 car, while youβd have to sacrifice groceries to fix yours? 1/
4. Is your community getting needed infrastructure repairs? 5. Has the homeless population in your community decreased? 6. Is your community more tense than ever before? 7. Do you live paycheck-to-paycheck? 8. Are you terrified of losing your job? 2/
9. Are more people employed in your area as a result of tax reform? 10. Can you take the day off to go fishing like your boss does to play golf? 11. Are you worried your brilliant daughter wonβt be able to get a decent job? 12. Are you a single parent working three jobs? 3/
THREAD: Snapshots of our broken Healthcare system. Without even approaching universal healthcare or medicare for all, these snapshots from personal life experience bring into stark relief WHY the U.S. Healthcare system is in a trash heap.\1
In December, I was hospitalized for a minor intestinal infection. During my evening, a staff doctor visited and told me she was shocked they hospitalized me. She said typically patients are just sent home with medication, but THIS hospital admitted 'everyone for everything' \ 2
During my 36 hours, they did everything they could to push every conceivable EXPENSIVE test on me. I had migraines, diagnosed 25 years ago, occasionally, so they wanted to run new MRIs and CT scans \ 3
