I’m sure @Uber started its operations in India assuming it’ll replicate the same seamless operations and comfort of booking a cab, as is abroad. But sadly, every time you’re booking an Uber, you’re hostage to these Cab drivers’ whimsical actions
and surprisingly there is no
possibility of complaint or redressal of customer’s grievance.
Let me walk you through a process of booking an Uber. You’ll go to App, enter where you wanna go and press enter. The App connects you to the nearest driver, or the one who accepts the
duty.
And here is when your nightmare begins.
Firstly, the driver will call or msg you - where do you want to go?
Now the system is supposed to be designed in a way that the can driver is not supposed to know where you are going to ensure safety of traveler and other
assorted reasons. But in reality, the driver can refuse to not come, or not even reply, and yet won’t cancel the ride coz it affects their ratings.
So what’s happening at your end that while you’re waiting for a cab that shows ‘arriving in 5 min’ you can easily be waiting for
20-30 minutes for that driver to keep you on waiting so, so in the end, you’ll have to cancel the ride. And if that’s not enough, Uber doesn’t ask you why you cancelled. It’ll just charge you some extra amount for your next booking coz YOU cancelled the ride. So in principle, you
wasted your time, got really frustrated by a non responsive driver who refused to come, are going to pay extra for next booking and there’s no guarantee that the next guy won’t do the same.
Let me elaborate with examples :
This can was booked by my friend at around 8:12 or so
and shows around 6 min to arrival. Once the driver knew where she has to go, he just decided not to come and wouldn’t cancel the ride either, and couldn’t care to reply too.
Another example from yesterday :
After telling the driver where I had to go, he just msged - Not
coming. Cancel it.
Now this guy kept me waiting for almost half an hour coz I didn’t tell him where I had to go. Finally since I didn’t cancel, coz I wasn’t in a hurry, he cancelled and a new driver picked up duty who did the same thing.
Almost an hour and twenty minutes
after I had started the process of booking I reached my destination which was 10 min away.
This attitude isn’t the only thing. I remember once a friend called panicked that her driver had suddenly decided to stop in a line for CNG, way back in the line, pretty late at night. I
suggested her to call that Help number on Uber. Well, that didn’t do anything except ‘Press one for this and two for that’.
I had my relatives stand for more than an hour at Railway station after cabs kept them waiting for 20-30 minutes and then cancelled abruptly.
There are
endless examples of such behaviour from all users of cabs and you really can’t do anything at all because there is no one you can talk to in case of such emergencies. Uber is trying to run a capitalist model with socialist ideology here. Drivers can never be wrong!
And I won’t
bring out the safety aspect coz I don’t wanna bring gun in a knives fight.
The government needs to put some regulations here. Commenters time and money cannot be that dispensable that corporations can choose to fleece them of both at their will. I’m not an active cab user,
coz I have my driver. But whenever I do have to book a cab, the feeling of dread overtakes. Getting a cab feels like an achievement.
It’s this unregulated territories that give rise to lawlessness. And when incidents happen, just sacking a driver becomes a knee jerk and
acceptable to all solution.
The chaos lies in the lack of regulation. The misbehaviour stems from fearlessness of staff. The haughty attitude is in the gap where a large corporation has no one watching over it.
Someone needs to do something !

This article in Hindu states the clarification by @adgpi about the propaganda video launched by #PAFF that tries to create a story and to prove it, shows an image of a bag and its contents that they captured. I have PERSONALLY checked from military
sources that the soldier mentioned in this video was never the part of ongoing operations, and is alive and serving in his unit. To further elaborate on the dumbness of propaganda, they morphed ID card of a soldier who wasn’t even mentioned in the causality list by @adgpi Futher
Dissection of contents can very well clarify how it’s an immature attempt at propaganda. 1. No soldier ever carries ID card in Ops. It’s an order and practice. 2. All items like clothing, leather bag, scissors etc look brand new. Obviously purchased recently to make this
The South Asian Geopolitics is about to go, rather undergoing drastic and unprecedented change. 1. It’s time for India to step up and enter into a bigger role than just focusing on itself. If it’s a battle of influence, you cannot hope to gain more by not participating in
regional activities. Sri Lanka post great, Bangladesh resolution of borders and increase in trade and commerce great. But Pakistan continues to be a nuisance that India is unable to find an answer to. Either by diplomacy or by force, the dispute has to be ended for India to gain
objective and clear prominence in region. Otherwise it’ll continue to be seen as a big country unable to resolve issues. Nepal and Bhutan continue to long standing friends, with minor issues coming up time to time. Where India also needs to focus is Myanmar. Given history of NE
I personally have lot of respect of Mr @ARanganathan72, especially for his panache with stats and facts to counter rhetorics. But I guess in this debate, he needs to understand that Army itself as an Organization is a fact, result and performance based Organization. The end game
will always be to be a ruthless war machine and win every battle. Whatever makes that happen, let’s do it ! In same breath, Caste based Regiments have proven their success since the time British created them. Even they followed the same principle. We don’t look deeply enough but
even they have Scot regiments etc. And they took Gurkhas exactly in same manner as it existed, in British Army, till present day to maintain the same principles, as mentioned ahead : 1. Infantry units at the face of it are one caste. But even within them, units and sub units
Spy Stories by Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott is exactly opposite of what investigative journalism is all about. On Pakistani side, a fictional Shahrukh Khan type over the top ISI spy becomes a protagonist who’s suddenly fighting everyone from ISI to Al Qaeda. On India side, they
gone to extreme lengths to disparage, implicate and pull down Indian government, Modi and NSA. Page after page they’ve tried to push the ‘Saffron terror’ up and given a clean chit to ISI on almost everything. For a book focused on Inter services rivalry, dedicating lot of pages
just to narrate the ‘Oh so nice’ Burhan Wani’s story and accolading him with names like Prophet and Young Fidel Castro and what not. There is absolutely no insight on any RAW operation except what’s already available on Internet. But to sell the Pak’s innocence agenda and again
Sharing a nice story on this auspicious day of #KargilDiwas.
During the war, millions of children from across the country wrote letters to faujis who were fighting on the front, sending their love and encouragement. The letters are distributed amongst all units and then further
to all companies, so everyone gets the to read them. I also got a few and replied to them. But my buddy, from 8 Sikh got one from Mhow, a place where we were about to for our Young Officers Mandatory course.
So when we reached there, in early 2000, he showed me the letter and
said we should visit this kid. I said sure. The letter was the cutest representation by a really you girl, 5-6 years old, of what she thought Army guys are doing and her best wishes for them.
So we bought a few chocolates and cookies etc and reached her house. We send the bell
This is no joke ! The systematic subjugation of Indian minds has been achieved through programming children from young age about invaders’ superiority. The text books in syllabus and other historic material considered as authoritative narration, written by agenda driven
academicians is brutally dishonest and prejudiced against Indians. Let me explain by example. Think of the most famous battles you can of our history, that you can recall immediately from your school time. 1. Panipat’s 3 battles 2. Palassey 3. Buxar 4. Haldighati 5. Saragarhi
6. 1857
And a couple of more. If you are not a history aficionado, these names are the ones that you more or less carry in your memory from basic history taught in school.
So what’s common in all of them ?
Indian forces lost all to outsiders/ invaders. Mainly Turks/Mughals and
