You’re going to hear a lot today, even from so-called liberal media, about a “border surge” due to the end of Title 42.

As you might have guessed, the media is sensationalizing this surge. The surge, and Biden’s response to it, is more complicated than you might think.

(Thread)
The first thing you should know is that Title 42 is not a decades old policy that is ending. It is a Trump-era “pandemic” policy that allows ICE and CPB to expel migrants without a hearing under the guise of “public health.”
You should also know, despite what both sides say, the Biden Administration has actively supported the expansion of Title 42 and have turned to it has their primary way of expelling migrants at the border.

BREAKING: President Biden is finalizing plans to enact Trump-era Asylum restrictions that will deport Asylum seekers if they can't prove they previously requested Asylum in a third country.

There is no question about it, this is an Asylum ban.
The only away around this ban is by using the CBP One app. Which is only available in a limited amount of languages, runs out of appointments quickly, and often struggles to identify darker skin Asylum seekers.
There are exceptions for unaccompanied children, migrants with an "acute medical emergency," migrants who face an "imminent and extreme threat" in Mexico and victims of "a severe form of human trafficking."

-Removing the Hyde Amendment from his budget proposal.
-Withdrawing $37 million in financial support from a planned dam in Honduras at the urging of activists.
-Ending the use of 2 ICE jails
