⚠️: A short story on how bad the chivo wallet is:

Yesterday with @Breez_Tech CEO Roy we tried paying with LN at some local meat restaurant. In 2021 paying in LN is pretty well understood; they create the invoice, we scan the QR code and voila

2/ As you saw in the video above, the transaction did work. We have the pre-image on his Breez wallet, the money was send to the Chivo lightning wallet.

There is no other way around. Math is math. The issue is that somehow the merchant was never credited.

3/ This has happened to many bitcoiners I spoke to here at #adopt21 and the answer from the shop owner is always the same: "Just call breez wallet customer service for a refund."

4/ Lucky for us, Roy, CEO of breez wallet, was the one paying 🙃

Jokes aside, is it due to a lack of local education that most el salvadorian have no clue what they are doing with Bitcoin. Chivo coin to chivo coin is easy since it’s just a centralized ledger transaction.

5/ But when you add bitcoin in the equation it gets messy.
Anyway I called the Chivo customer support and explained them the issue. Tbh calling a wallet support for a BTC LN transaction is a first time for me. They obviously were clueless and I had to explain them everything.

6/ Then something I never thought possible happened: the shop owner started spelling out the whole pre-image for 2 minutes. This is too much ahaha 🤣.

7/ At the end I had to pay in cash, I have a ticket with Chivo customer support for a refund of $14.35 or 22k sat, odds we get those back are pretty low, but if the chivo support team manages to figure it out it will be amazing.

8/ So talking with many bitcoiners the issues seems to be that the POS of Chivo doesn't credit Bitoin payment. Neither on-chain nor Lightning.

If feels like that paying to a Chivo wallet is like making a donation to the gouvernement.

9/ As Bitcoiners, we all know bitcoin isn’t easy and creating a good wallet is hard work. Still some of our core value is transparency and trying to remain compatible between all Bitcoin wallets. And yet Chivo is an absolute black box.

10/ The bitcoin community is always willing to review bugs, help on security standard, offer dev kit such a BDK or LDK and even free open source code ( @GaloyMoney ,@sqcrypto , @Breez_Tech , @BtcpayServer , @MuunWallet ). So why not use it ?
