It took me 10 months to grow from 1k followers to 5k.

In the last two months, I doubled that.

Here is what I'm learning:

🧵
Social media is about being SOCIAL

Stop overthinking everything and make some friends.

- Start conversations in DMs
- Offer to help without expectations
- Let people know when you like something you like

Also:

- Don't spam
- Don't be a creep
- Don't stress getting ghosted
Hustle for Distribution

If you are working hard writing, you need a plan to get your work in front of an audience.

Writing isn't enough to get your work seen.

- Turn on notifications for big accounts and comment
- DM your best content to friends
- Find communities to join
Quality Comes With Quantity

You won't get better at Twitter by working on content and never posting.

To get better, you need to get comfortable posting content before you think it is ready.

Just like at the gym, get your reps in.

ProTip: Check out @dickiebush's Ship30For30.
Schedule Time to Write

Scheduling time will help you be consistent without being constantly distracted.

Here is what works for me:

- Two hours on Sundays spent writing tweets for the week
- Two hours throughout the week for writing threads
- 30 minutes a day commenting
Save and Study Great Tweets

@blakeaburge is one of my favorite follows. If you want to see his best tweets, search for this:

blakeaburge min_faves:500

- Take screenshots of Tweets that hit
- Study them, and reflect on what makes them stand out
- Implement what you learn
Twitter is a Hits Business

3k of my followers came from a single thread I did. I have a few others that helped me add 500+.

Knowing what will hit before it does is a tricky skill to develop.

Sometimes it's just the right Tweet at the right time.

Keep shooting your shot.

Sometimes the things we do with great intentions hold our team back.

Here are 5 examples:
1. Overwhelming Your Team With Ideas

Leaders who do this are usually creative who love innovation.

They always have new ideas, and can't help but share them with the team.
Intention: For ideas to excite and inspire the team.

Outcome: They overwhelm the people around them, and their teams are constantly chasing new ideas.

Workaround: Create an idea tank. When you have an idea, store it here instead of sharing it with your team.

The 10 Rules of Leadership:

(Don’t be the nightmare boss who breaks all of these.)

THREAD//
1. Be Grateful

Expressing gratitude will not only help your team, but help your personal health.

- Reduces stress
- Increased resilience
- Improves relationships

Plus, Nobody wants a boss who complains about everything.
Leadership Tip:

Remember, people like different forms of gratitude.

For example, some will want praise in public, and others will prefer private recognition.

Learn how to connect with each individual on your team and make an impact.

I spent the last 13 years building a career at T-Mobile.

It changed my life, and tomorrow is my last day.

Here are 11 rules I learned to get you promoted and help you win at life:
Move With the Movers

Pay attention to the people getting new opportunities and advancing their careers.

Don't look at them as competition. Make them your friends.

Instead of asking for favors, find ways to support them and celebrate their successes.
Be an Excellent Teammate

Great leaders start as great teammates.

Look for ways to enrich the people on your team. Be the person who is always ready to help others get better.

You never know who is watching or the impact you will make on another person.

Jack Dorsey’s lesser-known co-founder, Jim McKelvey, wrote a book about creating Square.

You’ve probably never heard of it (or him).

Here are 11 of my favorite quotes from his boom The Innovation Stack:

🧵
“You’ll find more entrepreneurs in 12 step programs than you will in business school.”
“Patterns are funny things, for you can see them your entire life without ever noticing them. But once you finally notice, they appear everywhere.”
