Steve Bannon in (virtual) court now. DOJ says evidence in the case amounts to about 200 documents, mostly Bannon's own correspondence w/ the @January6thCmte .

Bannon's attorney, Evan Corcoran, says they want to make sure any documents in the case are available on the public record.

Corcoran suggests they intend to attack the legitimacy of the @January6thCmte. Pushes back on the government's assertion that it's a "straightforward case."

Corcoran says they don't think it's appropriate to set an accelerated trial schedule for this case. Says the ongoing civil case between Trump and @January6thCmte Chairman @BennieGThompson has relevant issues that need to be litigated first.

The DOJ is asking Judge Nichols to enter a protective order in the case so they can get the discovery to Bannon. The protective order would keep Bannon from, for example, openly releasing evidence in the case on his War Room show.

Bannon livestreamed from the steps of the FBI office in D.C. immediately after turning himself in and has posted repeatedly about the case since, including promising to "go on offense."

Judge Nichols is taking the request for a protective order under advisement. He's setting another status hearing for December 7. He wants the DOJ and Bannon's team to meet before then and discuss discovery issues.

Bannon's attorney thanks the court employees who helped coordinate logistics with his appearance earlier this week, given all of the public interest in the case.

Bannon will be back on December 7 for the next status hearing in the case, at which point Judge Nichols may set a trial date.
