The government claims “Protecting the NHS is of the utmost importance to the Government.”
This thread explains why we cannot believe that, what the government has in store for the NHS and what we need to do to stop them. 99-percent.org/government-res…

As John Major said:
“Michael Gove wanted to privatise the NHS; Boris wanted to charge people for using it; and Iain Duncan Smith wanted a social insurance system.
The NHS is as safe with them as a pet hamster would be with a hungry python.” theguardian.com/politics/2016/…

And Javid’s underreported speech to the Conservative Party conference confirmed what he thinks of the idea of state-funded healthcare.
He is supposed to be our Health Secretary.

If it is hard for you to believe that any UK government would think healthcare for the bulk of the population could be shifted from the state to private medical facilities, read the cabinet paper from 1982 cited at the end of this article. 99-percent.org/what-is-the-ma…

Over the last decade, the assault on the NHS has been waged largely by economic means – starving the NHS of funds so that it increasingly struggles to perform. 99-percent.org/crisis-what-cr…

More recently, despite the obvious long-term underpayment of NHS staff, the government has declared that now is not the time to raise their pay even in line with – let alone above – inflation.

While in a highly suspicious approach to pandemic response, the government has spent £billions of taxpayers’ money on private sector suppliers with no expertise (but strong links to the party) often in return for no usable products. 99-percent.org/money-for-noth…
(8/12)
Even more extraordinary, the government side-lined the NHS in its failing test & trace system – costing an unbelievable £37 billion – and nevertheless branded it as “NHS test & trace.” A move certain to further raise frustration with the real NHS 99-percent.org/whats-in-a-nam…

Now the government is stepping-up its attack. The Health and Care Bill plans to ‘reform’ the NHS. It creates the risk that we end up with a system like the US: hugely expensive and very poor at meeting people’s health needs.
(10/12)
The NHS is a vital part of the post-war social contract. Once it is gone, we may never get it back. Now is the time to take these threats seriously.

When things seem to be going wrong in so many different ways, it can get confusing.
This thread shows that it is simpler than it seems.

If you don’t like the idea of turning the NHS into something like the US system (which causes 2/3rds of US personal bankruptcies), remember that results from government policy decisions taken to protect donors’ interests. 99-percent.org/amending-the-h…
This thread explains why Ken Clarke’s comment about elected dictatorships should be taken seriously.
We still have time to save UK democracy, but we do not have time to waste.

Ken Clarke said:
“Boris is … impatient with constitutional constraints. He gets angry if courts or parliament interfere. We are dangerously close to the “elected dictatorship” that Lord Hailsham warned us about half a century ago.” theneweuropean.co.uk/tim-walker-int…

And it is not mere anger and impatience – he is busy dismantling all those safeguards. 99-percent.org/saving-democra…

And our democratic safeguards against it are under serious threat.
Leading Cabinet ministers are taking part in the attack on our anti-corruption defences. theguardian.com/politics/2021/…

Unfortunately, the government’s attack on democracy is wider still and therefore even more dangerous. 99-percent.org/saving-democra…
“The concept that [the Cabinet] care for the NHS is odd: Gove wants to privatise it; Boris wants to charge people for using it; and Duncan Smith wants an insurance system. The NHS is as safe with them as a pet hamster would be with a hungry python.”
And Javid believes:
"Government shouldn’t own all risks and responsibilities. We have to take responsibility for our health. We shouldn’t always go first to the state. Health and Social Care... should be family first, then community then the state.”

Our government, like all others, has had to struggle against COVID to save lives and to protect the economy.

Part of our government’s response was to circumvent procurement rules to ‘tackle the emergency.’
They spent well over £1 billion of our money with unqualified companies linked to ministers – in several cases in return for nothing usable. 99-percent.org/money-for-noth…
