Guns turned what could have been a fistfight into a shootout. At every turn guns made this situation go from violent to deadly.
Don’t forget the police knew that there were armed civilians down the road who the police made the decision to push the protesters towards. They made that decision- to push the protesters several blocks down the street bringing both groups into close contact.
One militia member has even been cited as saying that allegedly a police officer told them that they (the cops) were going to move the protesters down the street and that the militia could “handle them”

Source TW graphic:

The cops did nothing about the armed protestors being out after curfew and even supported them and said basically thanks your a great help throwing the armed civilians waters from their armored vehicle.
It could be said this never would have happened had the police enforced the curfew on the armed civilians. But they didn’t and it cost lives.
The gun made the situation deadly, the police not enforcing curfew on the armed civilians and pushing the protestors several blocks into contact with the armed civilians made the situation orders of magnitude more likely to happen by accident- if not intentionally.
Don’t just take my word for it- if you have the stomach to watch the video investigation *that is very graphic* watch it and you get a clearer picture of what happened.

I think it’s essential to have the proper context of all the things that had to go wrong for this to happen. It’s deeply unfortunate but not surprising considering how this seems almost willful and arguably was considering how many thing had to go wrong.

No one, no single student, parent, political party, organization, senator or president is going to save us. We have to save us by all doing our part and working together to address the challenges of our time.
Raise your hand if you’re here to save us

I would say I’m glad I’m not on Elon Musks comms team but I think it’s pretty clear at this point he fired all of them.
I was younger- I considered becoming an aerospace engineer. It was fucking amazing seeing spacex rockets from my house literally come back from space and land themselves.
It sucks to see how much of the hard work so many employees have done to innovate in space travel and other areas is being erased more and more by Elon’s stupid tweets.

Fuck corruption and the system that enables it
Fuck war and using the people as Canon fodder to protect the wealth of men that never gave a fuck about us.

Our real enemy are the men who arm both sides of conflict, lobby for war, kill millions then profit enormously from the blood of the innocent.
Then guess who has to pay for it? WE DO.
Either through taxes and/or inflation and massive debt from + the interest that we’ll be paying off for decades after the corrupt men that started that conflict are long gone.

If we lose our majority Biden will be impeached and it will stop us from doing literally anything for the next two years.

Some progress is better than none.
We need to expand our majority with better candidates in the Senate and house to pass better legislation.
This would be a lot easier if we had a proportional form of government but we don’t. We have one that’s always been controlled by corporations- if we want to get that money out of politics we have to expand our majority and pass massive campaign finance reform and much more.
Have have 0 chance of doing that or passing comprehensive voter rights protections if we lose our majorities because we refuse to pass legislation and deliver for voters.

We can either sit on the sidelines, let the perfect be the enemy of the good and get absolutely nothing done.

Or we can work with the majority we have to get legislation passed while working to expand our majority to make better legislation possible.
We never would have got gun laws passed in our very red legislature in Florida if we refused to support legislation that didn’t include an assault weapons ban.

Lives have been saved because the laws we passed- had we refused to come to the table people would be dead right now.
One way to completely screw yourself and everyone on your side electorally is to refuse to pass legislation that you aren’t 100% happy with.

Pass the legislation, deliver for voters and work to get more people who agree with you elected.

Studying history has made me realize the system isn’t broken it’s doing exactly what it was made to do.
It was never about helping people, it was about making a few men richer and using the 99% as Canon fodder to protect their wealth.
The system only ever helps people when the that wealth is threatened (typically by war) so they need us to buy into the system more- they do so by giving us a tiny amount more of say, money and resources.
