A senior member of the Cabinet recently confided that she’s the member of the shadow front bench the Government fears most
@_BenWright_ The world got a glimpse of why at the end of October, when the 42-year-old stepped in for Keir Starmer to respond to Rishi Sunak's Budget speech after the Labour leader tested positive for Covid
Responding to a cut in the bank surcharge tax, a reduction in air passenger duty for domestic flights and an overhaul of alcohol duty, Reeves quipped, 'At least the bankers on short-haul flights, sipping Champagne, will be cheering this Budget today'
🔴A trained economist, Reeves is also an amateur historian.
Her interest in the history of female politicians dates back to when she was elected as MP for Leeds West and discovered she was only the second woman ever to represent any of the Yorkshire city’s eight constituencies
➡️Reeves took her first steps towards Westminster when school friends were discussing who their parents would be voting for in the 1987 election...
🗣️"I was a bit embarrassed that I didn’t know what they were talking about, so I asked my parents. Dad turned on the Six O’Clock News, pointed at Neil Kinnock and said, 'That’s who we vote for'"
🗣️"The 1980s were a very political time. Thatcher was hugely divisive. I disagreed with just about everything she stood for," she said.
"But, because of her, I never doubted that a woman could have a successful political career; I never doubted that a woman could lead"
