Thread: On Thanksgiving and Natural Family...

I'm clearly a guy that has a place in his worldview for biblical polemics.

That being said let me remind all you Chad's and based meme lords out there to remember the 5th commandment this Thanksgiving.

Chances are high for all of us that not everyone sitting around your Thanskgiving table will have a sanctified worldview.

Being gracious and cordial with them, looking for ways to avoid conflict rather than provoke it, doesn't mean you are honoring their worldview.

It means, as a Christian, that you are honoring yours.

"Honor your father and mother so that it may go well with you in the land."

If we believe God ordained the family for the good of the human race, and that it is imperative we recover and defend this divine institution, then I cannot think of a better opportunity to promote that idea then when the extended family gathers.

It is true you have a new family in Christ, and that you receive 100-fold that which you leave for Christ's sake in your spiritual family, but grace does not abolish nature.

Grace redeems nature, bringing back that which was lost with the first family, the first marriage, and the first Adam.

Your natural family should still carry with it natural bonds, affections, and loyalties.

There's a reason we meet with them every Thanksgiving, and if it's become a formality, make it your goal to change that.

"so that it may go well with you in the land."
