I’ve cycled through about ten different responses to this headline, and none of them are quite doing it justice rawstory.com/pastor-tells-c…
The problem with sites like Rawstory and RightWingWatch is that they tend to focus undue attention on inconsequential randos that say outrageous things so they can generate online traffic. Like, what the fuck do I care what an unknown pastor has to say
I’ve had plenty to say about outrage merchants on the right like Laura Ingraham & Tucker Carlson who routinely make examples of fringe figures on the left to weaponize against mainstream liberals. But I don’t like it when liberal outrage merchants do it either.
So yes, the pastor’s words are appalling and offensive and sexist; worst of all, the word “Best” implies a list of Rape Runners-Up stored somewhere in the back of his mind.
But in all honesty, I respect myself less for having been compelled to respond to this at all.

The verdict itself gives Team Racist everything they’ll ever need, so the only point of even suggesting such a lawsuit is just to gloat: “NYAHH NYAHH LIBERAL TEARS LOL CNN!”
It’s like the Senate acquittal of Trump: A “not guilty” verdict equates to “Our guy did nothing wrong.”
When Judge Schroeder effectively got Rittenhouse off the hook, not only did it establish legal predence for open-carrying firearms in the service of vigilantism, but it struck another blow in the Right’s ongoing war against the Mainstream Media.
When the people who get to decide if Killing Two People Is Okay agree with the defendant that Yes, Those People Definitely Should Have Been Killed, it isn’t terribly difficult to generate some kind of reason why Killing Two People Is Okay.
There were other laws broken, which the judge decided to unilaterally dismiss so as not to distract from the central issue of whether Killing Two People Is Okay.
Many other judges would not have let these things slide. But Judge Schroeder knew the result he wanted.
A lingering aftereffect of the Trump Presidency is that mindless nonsense like the Presidential Turkey Pardon while the country around us is virtually engulfed in flames and on the brink of civil war fills me with little besides white-hot rage
I mean, I doubt I’m the only one who’s a bit more focused on what the Rittenhouse verdict is going to mean for the authoritarian Right & the vigilante jackofficers who feel entitled to peel off protesters and then cite the tried-&-true They’re Coming Right For Us defense in court
Hell of a job, Judge, for making it that much harder to enforce restrictions against minors carrying firearms, openly or otherwise. Aggressors now get to claim “self-defense” because of selective amnesia. Active shooters are cool as long as they’re white. Terrorism = patriotism.
R: Rittenhouse was justified in open-carrying an AR-15 because of all the rioting & looting going on
CNN: The Rittenhouse verdict will soon be announced
R: Get ready for more rioting & looting
D: Hey, look; two black people
R: Again with the rioting & looting
D: I detect an unmistakable pattern in your perception of civil demonstration
R: If we successfully associate “Black Lives Matter” with “rioting & looting”, it negates the need for us to address any issues with the police
D: You don’t say
R: We’re also pretty fucking racist
D: Wait, did you just admit you were racist
R: HOW DARE YOU!
D: I’m confused
R: Look, our entire modus operandi is to demonstrate our racism in every conceivable way but fiercely deny that we are racist. The next logical step is to just admit it, and THEN fervently deny it
Republicans everywhere are insisting that liberal school boards are brainwashing our children with Critical Race Theory.
This is a lie. Many of them know this. But it wins them elections.
When truth & power are at cross purposes, the GOP will choose power.
A report was released yesterday where the 1/6 insurrectionists insisted they were “force fed” CRT in jail. (My gut reaction featured many intemperate words.)
“CRT indoctrination” was never a grievance that could be a legitimately addressed. It was always a political dog whistle.
You can’t tell Democrats to “Stop forcing Critical Race Theory on us” when Democrats were never doing that in the first place.
But politics is far less about what is really happening than what people BELIEVE is happening.
The grievance, not the resolution, was always the goal.
