OnThisDay in 1956,Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar delivered a speech on "Origin of Buddhism"at #BanarasHinduUniversity. He said, "Buddhism is not a branch of Hinduism & religion existed at the time of the Buddha was different frm the Vaidic &Brahminical religion"
#DrAmbeddkar argued that, The Vaidic believed in the truth of the Vedas, the Buddha was totally opposed to the Vedas. In the Kalama Sutta, the Buddha taught that Human beings should think freely, and never believed that the Vedas contain eternal truth for mankind for the future.
The Buddha compared the Vedas with the desert. Vedas are only prayers to Indras and others for horses, weapons, victory over enemies, and material enjoyment. There is no moral teaching in the Vedas and therefore the Buddha repudiated the Vedas.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar further said, The Buddha questioned the sacrifices of animals and cows and declared it useless to achieve the highest blessings. Because of the Buddha’s criticism, the Hindus have to give up the worship of the gods like Indra and Varun.

#OTD in 1885, "Dnyanodaya" newspaper published a letter written by Mahatma #JyotiraoPhule to #MGRanade (13 May 1885). Ranade invited #Jyotirao to attend 2nd annual conf of marathi writers. In reply, Jyotiba wrote a thought provoking letter to Ranade 👇
In his letter #JyotiraoPhule said, "I was very glad to receive your invitation. But oh, dear brother, our institutions & books have nothing to do with authors who have not the courage or guys to grant willingly or openly bahuman rights, & from the prevailing tendencies..
it is presumed that they could never bring themselves to grant these rights to those who have been deprived of them. The teachings & message of their books are poles apart from the message from the books written by us.
#OTD in 1888, the great social reformer #JyotiraoPhule was bestowed with the title of ‘Mahatma’ by Vithalrao Vandekar. As the history goes, Jyotirao had completed 60 yrs of his age & 40 yrs of social service fighting for the rights of the "bahujans"
To mark this achievement, it was decided by the bahujans and satyashodhak leaders & workers to felicitate Jyotirao Phule. Rao Bahadur Vithalrao Krishnaji Vandekar, Narayan Meghaji Lokhande were in the forefront for arranging this function.
Rao Bahadur Vandekar and his fellow workers decided to bestow the title of ‘Mahatma’ on Jotirao Phule for his dedicated service in the cause of humanity. Hon. Sayajirao Gaekwad Maharaja of Baroda, who also was invited for this function, could not attend the function.

Kalaram Temple entry movement formed a pivotal role in the Dalit movement. Dadasaheb Gaikwad & Dr Ambedkar led a protest outside the temple, in order to allow Dalits into the temple. The movement was to have a #right_to_enter the temple. it was more towards having #equal_rights.
Dr Ambedkar said, “I didn’t launch the temple entry movement because I wanted the Depressed Classes to become worshipers of idols which they were prevented from worshiping or because I believed temple entry would make them equal members in & an integral part of the Hindu Society.
The First Round Table Conference officially inaugurated by His Majesty George V, #OnThisDay in the year 1930 in Royal Gallery House of Lords at #London. In this conference Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar demanded separate electorates for the "untouchables".
First Round Table Conference was held during 12 Nov 1930 – 13 January 1931 at London. Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar, during his presentation in 1931 round table conference, described the Indian society as divided in three distinct sections — Hindus, Muslims & the depressed classes.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar further stated that India can be truly independent only if these classes elect their own representatives for taking part in the process of government. #DrAmbedkar, thus, juxtaposed the class concept on caste division in India.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar established the ‘Bombay State Inferior Village Watandar Association’ under his own chairmanship OnThisDay in 1956. He was the “first legislator in India to introduce a bill for the abolition of the serfdom of agricultural tenants”.
Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar wanted to solve the problem of Mahar Watans by all legislative and constitutional means. He introduced a bill in Poona session of Bombay Legislative Council in 1937 (17 September) to abolish the Mahar Watan for which he had been agitating since 1927.
Clarifying the objectives of the Association that he formed on 16 June 1956, Dr #BabaSahebAmbedkar stated that if the Government did not solve the problem amicably, then expressed his desire to prosecute the Government.
