An important message. No sports movie in history has done more to advance antisemitic stereotypes than The Mighty Ducks, which is by no means surprising, considering it's by Disney.
This film is shameful and wrong on so many levels that this particular crime is often overlooked.

OK, so, first off, I hope it's not a surprising opinion that the entire MD franchise is chuck full of racism. It often frames entire storylines and serves as a backbone of plots. I mean, behold the Ducks' Oreo Line! The film just tells you right off the bat: it's racist af.

It goes without saying that all "ethnic" players on the Ducks rigidly conform to whatever racial stereotype was just on the right side of acceptable in the early 90s. Which, to be sure, is extremely unacceptable. I mean, yeah, black kids aren't outright gobbling watermelons, but

Other ethnicities don't escape unscathed, either, of course. The Hispanic kid is a gangster fresh from a cartel massacre, the Texan kid is a hillbilly who literally brings his lasso to the bench (and uses it on the ice), the Asian kids are model minorities, because of course.

But nobody takes more shots than the Jew. Like, literally.

Goldberg, of course, conforms to all the most hurtful Jewish Kid stereotypes. Every single one of them. He is fat, unathletic, obnoxious, obsessed with food, cowardly, whiny, morbidly scared of mother, extremely unattractive and ridiculous. His best quality is being comic relief.

This may seem like nothing to you gentiles, but Jewish kids have to contend with "weakly, unathletic Jew" bullshit all the time, and it's extremely hurtful and damaging.

Was Goldberg more offensive than Gunnar Stahl the Evil Icelander. Of course he was. If for no other reason that Stahl was obviously not Icelandic (even his name is German) and represented no actual Iceland stereotypes. While Goldberg tackled every single Jewish one with gusto.

Well, not every single one, apparently. He didn't wear glasses and wasn't nearly as annoying as he could be. But just to plug that particular plot hole, MD introduced Averman.
Yes, it needed a second Jewish character, just to make sure not a single antisemitic base was uncovered.

MD doesn't just roll with antisemitism, it rubs it in your face. Revels in it. Ladles it out like a Jewish grandma ladles out borscht. It spreads it so thick, a Russian Cossack would ask it to go easy.
But wait, want did you say? You are saying something about Goldberg's success?

You are saying he was the Jewish kid who did good?
Really? Well, let's analyze how successful Goldberg actually is. First off, he is utterly useless in the first film. His save percentage, as far as we can observe, is something like .003. Not a single Ducks win is due to his play

He then spends the entire second film keeping down a blonde Aryan goddess who is his superior in every conceivable way.
So, if you are paying attention, we've moved on from mere "ugly, weak Jew" stereotypes to straight up "white subjugation" Nazi bullshit.

In the third movie, the Aryan goddess is, of course, triumphant, and the filmmakers, feeling magnanimous, allow Goldberg to be the hero of the Big Final Game.
But how did he do that? By being set up by the White Savior in what amounted to a patronizing act of mercy...

The most they could allow Goldberg to achieve was to ride the White Savior's glory a bit, and even then, EVEN THEN, Goldberg had to say, "Don't ever do this again!", just to let all of us know that this was definitely against his will. That he is not a hero, he is not strong...

He is not good or brave or in any way exemplifying of any athletic or human virtues. He is dragged to success by his betters because they are, well, better. And he hates it, because it requires him to do something that is against his pathetic Jewish nature.
I mean, seriously!

I have seen and heard lots of offensive shit about the weak, unathletic, ugly Jew who can only ride the White Man's back in my life, but have never, ever seen it expressed so clearly and unambiguously in film.

Dead serious. The Mighty Ducks is horrible, racist shit and should be viewed as such. It can't be excused by the context of the times. It can't be excused by being a kids' comedy. It can't be excused by anything.
It's completely unambiguously evil.
