These are great questions by @donwinslow. I’m going to answer all the ones that I can to the best of my knowledge.
#ShockingUnansweredJan6Questions
1.) Why wasn’t Trump evacuated to the Bunker under the WH during January 6th?

Trump was one of the most primary organizers and inciters of the attack and therefore knew he wasn’t in any danger.
2.) How did the rioters know to target the only few unsecured windows at the Capitol?

Complicit Republican members of Congress—we know of at least 9–must have provided this information.
3.) How did they find Jim Clyburn’s secret office?

Again, it had to be one of the Republican members involved in planning and inciting the attack.
4.) Why hasn’t a single @GOP member of Congress been subpoenaed?

A House committee conducting an investigation like this has to be extremely delicate w/ matters that implicate members of its own body. It makes sense that these individuals would be among the last to be subpoenaed
5.) Who planted pipe bombs outside the Republican and Democratic HQ’s the night before the attack?

I don’t know the answer to this question, but do not believe it was a member of Congress, even though most analyses of the footage suggests it was a woman.
6.) Why did @laurenboebert tweet about @SpeakerPelosi’s movements during the attack?

Because Lauren is a domestic terrorist who was involved in the attack & wanted to facilitate the rioters reaching the Speaker of the House and eliminate the line of succession to the Presidency.
7.) What advance knowledge did the @FBI have?

All reports suggest the @FBI had extensive knowledge of the attack. We don’t know if they didn’t act on it due to incompetence or interference from someone on the inside like Trump-appointed Christopher Wray. My guess is the latter.
8.) Why has Trump not been indicted for pressuring officials to overturn the election?

Investigations can’t impede each other. He’ll probably be the last one indicted for 1/6 because all the people under him are needed to provide conclusive admissible evidence of his involvement
9.) How did Steve Bannon know the day before the attack that “all hell is going to break loose tomorrow”?

Steve Bannon was one of the primary planners and instigators of January 6th. It should not surprise anyone that he knew the day before what was going to happen.
10.) How many calls did Trump make between 1:10pm and 4:17pm on 1/6?

I don’t know, but I do know that the @FBI and @January6thCmte have these records and he spoke to both @Jim_Jordan and @GOPLeader. We know McCarthy asked him repeatedly to call off the rioters and Trump refused.
11.) Who ordered the national guard delay?

The most likely people responsible for the delay of national guard troops to the Capitol are Mike Flynn’s brother, Charles Flynn and Trump himself. The committee must identify every person who assisted with this and prosecute them.
12.) Did Michael Flynn’s brother stop help from arriving?

Trump would have had to order him to do this, but I believe the answer is yes.
13.) Why were more than 35 Capitol police officers investigated for their role in January 6th?

Because there were a minimum of 3 dozen Capitol police officers complicit in the insurrection. We saw multiple officers taking selfies with the rioters; as well as removing barricades.
14.) Which Republican members of Congress gave tours of the Capitol prior to Jan 6th?

We know @laurenboebert and at least one other @GOP house member did this. Both the @FBI and @January6thCmte have the footage of anyone who was stupid enough to lead these reconnaissance tours.
15.) Why are Republicans so scared of their 1/6 phone records being known?

Because text messages & phone calls are critical pieces of time-stamped evidence of their involvement in the attack. Even burner phones’ text records are permanently stored on the carrier’s servers.
16.) Why did it take 6 months to form the @January6thCmte?

Because @SpeakerPelosi knew that this was going to be politicized & obstructed by Republicans. So she gave them a chance to make it bipartisan in the senate. They rejected it, so she set up her own committee in the House
17.) Why did it take 9 months before the committee issued its first subpoenas?

It didn’t. The committee was formed on July 1st of 2021. The first subpoenas were issued on September 23rd of 2021. That’s less than 3 months.
18.) Why has there only been one public hearing in almost a year?

Because the committee is still conducting depositions and subpoenaing witnesses for testimony and documents; all of which are critical parts of gathering evidence for an investigation. Hearings come after this.
19.) Why hasn’t a single member of the Trump family been subpoenaed?

According to members of the committee, they’ve held off on issuing subpoenas to Trump or his family members for the time being because they know the circus that subpoenaing any of these individuals will create.

What does race/racism have to do with the Rittenhouse case/trial/verdict?

Since that question is evidently confounding so many people, let’s talk about it (Thread)
1.) White Privilege
Kyle showed up to a BLM protest in another state w/ an illegally obtained assault weapon, killed 2 people, shot a third, & not only wasn’t shot or harmed by police; they didn’t even stop him; instead they DIRECTED HIM where to go and he was NEVER ARRESTED.
To contrast, Breonna Taylor was SHOT & KILLED WHILE SLEEPING IN HER BED by police; Tamir Rice was shot & killed for having a toy gun; Trayvon Martin was shot & killed for a bag of skittles; & George Floyd was suffocated to death by a cop who thought he used a counterfeit $20 bill

Parents who think it’s racist for their children to be taught about slavery and racism in school are a great example of why we need to teach our children about slavery and racism in school.
Just watch this interview with Patti Hidalgo Menders, a mother of six who is fighting against the equity and inclusion curriculum in Leesburg, Virginia. I’m gonna break down every ridiculous thing this woman says.
She opens by saying that her county (Loudon, VA) is the wealthiest in the country and therefore “there’s not a lot of racism.” The notion that wealth precludes or reduces racism is false. Wealthy people tend to be better educated; but they are not inherently any less prejudiced.

Since the members of the Jan 6th committee have said they will hold Bannon in contempt if he doesn’t show up to testify (today at noon), and Bannon has said repeatedly he isn’t going to show, let’s talk about contempt of Congress—what it is, how it works and what actually happens
Contempt of Congress is defined in statute 2 U.S.C.A. § 192 (1938), which states that any person who is summoned before Congress who ‘willfully makes default’ (refuses to appear) shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a maximum $100,000 fine and 12 month imprisonment.
According to the Congressional Research Service, the first Contempt charge was issued in 1795 and since 1980 nearly 30 people have been found in contempt. Almost all modern instances have resulted in individuals cooperating or facing consequences in terms of jail time and fines.

I’m not a fan of Bill Maher, but I can recognize a prescient prediction: & this is not only terrifyingly plausible, it’s the path we are currently on & will remain on if we don’t get voting rights legislation passed or hold Trump accountable for his crimes
I want to clarify a few things. First, if your takeaway from this is that all hope for America is lost, then you’ve missed the point. These predictions are not set in stone. We have the power to change them right now. So stay involved & engaged in the fight for democracy.
Second, I do not believe Trump will be the nominee in 2024. While I know most people have lost faith in the notion that Trump will actually face some consequences for his crimes, I have not. He still faces thousands of criminal charges and he will be brought down by one of them. Image

Since there seems to be a lot of confusion about how Congressional subpoenas work, let’s review it and what they can do when witnesses refuse to comply.
(THREAD)
So what is a subpoena? A subpoena is a legally enforceable demand for documents, data, or witness testimony. In Latin, "sub poena" means "under penalty."
Subpoenas are most commonly used by litigants in court cases. The Supreme Court has also recognized Congress's power to issue subpoenas, saying in order to write laws, it also needs to be able to investigate crimes.

The entire ‘abortion debate’ is not about life. No one is “pro-abortion” & most people who call themselves “pro-life” are fine with mass shootings, the death penalty, & lack of mandates for masks/vaccines even after 650K COVID deaths. It’s about women’s rights to bodily autonomy.
I’m sick of this debate being falsely framed as “pro-life” vs “pro-choice.” It’s pro-women’s fundamental rights vs. anti-women’s fundamental rights. When a zygote technically qualifies as a person isn’t relevant; we don’t force people to donate blood or organs to save others.
Why should we have more of a right to make decisions over our own blood, organs, & bone marrow than women do over their uterus after WE impregnate them? Abortion bans don’t even stop abortions; they just increase the likelihood that the women DIE during labor. That’s not pro-life
