Not content with just making it even harder for refugees to reach British shores, Priti Patel has also snuck in some new anti-protest laws at the last minute.
New offences would impose up to a year’s jail on protesters who lock themselves to railings, gates or other objects.
/2
Police would get sweeping new powers to stop and search protesters, even without suspicion a crime was committed.
/3
New Asbo-like orders can be imposed on protesters, even if no crime is committed, which will remove the right to freedom of speech & assembly.
/4
Courts would get powers to impose 'prevention orders' on protesters’ future behaviour, even if they’re not convicted of a crime.
/5
A reminder too that the Policing Bill will not only attack our right to protest, it will criminalise trespass, threatening the right to room & effectively criminalising the way of life of Gypsy, Roma & Traveller communities.
/6
This new criminal offence of trespass, is based only on a ‘reasonable suspicion’ that someone has, will or is likely to cause damage, disturbance or disruption.
/7
Alongside this, the bill creates new vehicle seizure powers, including cars and caravans. For Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities this amounts to seizure of their homes and possessions.
/8
It will also will increase discriminatory policing tactics, including new stop and search powers that would licence the searching of people with previous convictions linked to knife crime, with no grounds for suspicion.
/9
This will in turn ramp up the use of 'suspicion-less' stop and search powers which are used with particularly high levels of discrimination against people of colour.
/10
All in all this is probably the most authoritarian bill that’s ever been brought to the House of Commons in modern British history & it has absolutely no place in our society.
How qualified are the new and promoted members of the cabinet?
Let's judge some of them by their own words and actions.
