... it's the opposite of laissez faire where the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned and regulated by the market.

Me : For example the market operates under power laws and tends to accumulate power / wealth to the individual. The counterbalance is the Gov (and redistribution) but Gov itself accumulates power but in this case to the community (hence the importance of representative democracy)
Where it goes horribly wrong is when Governments accumulate power to individuals or where regulation is done by the market which again involves accumulating power to individuals. You always need checks and balances against this.

Me : Our current systems in the West aren't with the accumulation to individuals and our history of this. I think China has done a better job but still runs a risk of accumulation to individuals in Government. I suspect we're going to need randomness i.e. sortition.
