2/6) Last year a Expert Working Group published an important report on the issue of surgical fires in the NHS, which included a number of recommendations aimed at the prevention of these serious patient safety incidents pslhub.org/learn/patient-…
3/6) The Minister for Patient Safety and Primary Care, @mariacaulfield, recently set out the current status of efforts to tackle surgical fires in the NHS in response to several written questions tabled by @JimShannonMP in the House of Commons
4/6) Considering this response in a new blog today, @ptsafetylearn identifies concerns about the frequency and monitoring of surgical fires in the NHS and asks about the progress being made to implement the Working Group's safety recommendations
5/6) We call on @NHSEngland to:
1⃣ Publish a progress update on its work to implement the Expert Working Group’s recommendations on the prevention of surgical fires.
2⃣ Formally review the potential for surgical fires to be classified as Never Events.
