The Certain Pirate

#ONEPIECE #Theory
Ever since Shanks surprised us all by appearing in front of the Gorosei, we have wondered at his motives for doing so. Some even believe now that Shanks is evil.

The biggest potential clue we have, is Shanks' mention of a, 'certain pirate'.

But who could this be?
There are quite a few possibilities as to who this 'certain pirate' could be, so the best way to determine who it most likely is, is to consider all of the potential candidates.

So, let's start with the seemingly most obvious candidate -
Blackbeard: Shanks' warning to the Gorosei, seems very much like Shank's warning to Whitebeard.

Shanks tried to warn Whitebeard of Blackbeard's intention to usurp him and those fears turned out to be justified.

Blackbeard now sits among the Emperors.
It would be unsurprising then, if the pirate that Shanks is referring to is, Blackbeard.

We don't know what his next move is yet but it seems that Blackbeard is going after something that the Navy want.

This would track with Shanks warning them about him.
However, Blackbeard of all people, should be and is very much already on the World Government's radar as a threat. It doesn't make much sense for Shanks to bring him up. So who else could it be.

The next most seemingly obvious candidate is -
Rocks D. Xebec: The most notorious pirate in modern history, Rocks was the mastermind of the God Valley incident. An event so catastrophic that the World Government literally censored it from history.

It would make sense, if Shanks wanted to discuss this history at this time.
Most notably, he might want to discuss the reason for Rocks' invasion of God Valley. The 'taboo subject' that was earlier evaded by Sengoku.
"Do you really want to know?"

The significance of this may tie directly to current events.
However, if there was a threat posed by the history of Rocks, the World Government would likely be most aware of it as a threat. This makes Rocks also less likely.

But there are still plenty of candidates. Such as -
The Golden Lion Shiki:

Once a member of the Rocks Pirates and a rival to Roger up to the Ed War. Shiki raided Marineford after the announcement of Roger's execution and even after he was captured. He escaped.
The events that followed were Shiki meeting with Whitebeard and mentioning his, '20 year plan.' In canon, we do not know what that is. As Strong World itself is not part of the canon.

Shiki's face has appeared recently in Wano.
However, it's currently been 24 years since Roger and 22 years since Shiki's '20 year plan'. It seems it's not very likely that Oda has had time to make this canon, despite perhaps having earlier intentions to.

The possibility remains that Shiki is the fabled, 'Lurking Legend.'
If Shiki's '20 year plan' were to come true, whatever it might be in canon. It is likely something that Shanks would be able to obtain knowledge of, & something that evades the WG's radar.

Given the current state of instability in the world. The threat this poses could be huge.
Shiki is probably a stronger candidate than Blackbeard or Rocks. But who else could it be?

Now we get to a fan favourite possibility -
Eustass 'Captain' Kid: A member and leader of the Worst Generation, Kid has been making waves throughout his entire career. He was the first to enter the New World and has since then, already challenged and fought against, 3/4 of the Yonko. Kid's ambition could not be clearer.
Kid's original target among the Yonko, was Shanks himself. Before forming his alliance, he had already attempted to fight Shanks, this being how he lost his arm. Does Kid have a personal vendetta against Shanks? -
Like Luffy & Law, Kid is set to be one of the pioneers of the 'New Era'. Oda has already made direct refer to the collapse of 'the tower', representing the fall of the established order.

Kid is about to defeat Big Mom!
Kid is likely then to have caught Shanks' attention and this would make sense, if Shanks became concerned of the threat that Kid poses to the stability of the world.

Shanks may have found Kid's lineage, which many theorise may be a relation to Rocks or Calgara of the Shandorian.
So far, Kid is the most likely candidate for this, 'certain pirate.' But there are still others.

These next few, would certainly be subversions of expectations.
Buggy The Clown: Formerly a Warlord and now a Kingpin of the Underworld, Buggy has flown under the WG's radar his whole career. Even after his capture, it wasn't until the break out of Impel Down, that they finally realised his significance.
An apprentice of Gol D. Roger, the sworn brother of Yonko 'Red Hair' Shanks, rival of Monkey D. Luffy, member of the Worst Generation! Buggy's connections run deep. It's amazing that he managed to stay under the radar for so long.

But is that where his connections end?
Buggy notably has the same power as Luffy, which was described by Mihawk at Marineford, the power to attract everyone to becoming an ally.

This power has allowed him to stumble his way into great and greater heights of succession.

Where does he get this from?
The first thing we know of Buggy, is that he is a kid on Roger's ship, alongside Shanks, at around 10 years old.

Where did they both come from?

This was around 10 years after God Valley.
Many would say that Shanks is the secret son of Rocks, but now that we know that he has the sway to gain an audience with the Gorosei, this seems less likely. It's more likely he's part Celestial.

In the case of Rocks' son, who could suspect the clown?
Buggy is actually a very good candidate for the 'certain pirate'. Not only was he an apprentice of Roger, is the brother of Shanks, & rival of Luffy. He also has the power to convert people to his allies and has been gaining increasing influence. And he may be the son of Rocks! -
There are still a few more candidates to discuss but I hit the tweet limit on how many you can do in a thread at once, so below i'll add the second part to address the remaining few candidates.

I'll upload and attach that later this afternoon
Part 2: Now let's address the remaining potential candidates. The next one would be another subversion of expectations.
Montblanc Usopp:

Shanks would know of Usopp, since his father, Yassop, is one of Shanks' closest crew members.

One thing that Shanks would surely be aware of concerning, Usopp, would be his connection to Noland.

Usopp has previously claimed to be a descendant of Noland.
Usopp remains largely in the shadow of Luffy and has not yet obtained as much notoriety, but he has already actually made a considerable name for himself. He has statues honouring him around the world and to some he is referred to as 'God' Usopp.
The significance of Usopp is not to be underestimated and it seems almost assured that he is indeed a descendant of Noland.

This alone raises the possibility that Shanks would think Usopp to be important.
It is interesting to me that, Oda, chose to have, Usopp be the one, of all people, to go to Kinemon.

The deeper significance of Usopp's connection to Noland, may also tie in to connection with Joyboy!
Usopp is actually a legitimate potential candidate to be the certain pirate but it does seem like a leap and jump compared to other potential candidates.

There are only a few more that I can think of as possibilities.
Trafalgar Water D. Law: Having made a name for himself as a Warlord during the time skip, Law has gone on to become the mastermind behind the plot to dethrone Doflamingo and subsequently to defeat Kaido.

Law said himself that he had 'broken the gears.'
The defeat of Doflamingo and failure to censor it, lead to the abolition of the Warlords. Previous attempts to censor Crocodile & Moria's defeat's coming to nought.

Law is as much responsible for this as Luffy.
Shanks would likely recognise the full extent of the thread posed by, Law.

A man who does not care to be Pirate King but concerns himself only with the truth of history.

Not only this, but it has been implied that Law could control 'Mareijois' National Treasure.'
Law is not to be underestimated, he is likely to be a key figure in the finale of the story. He himself likes to say, "The D. will bring another storm."

He is a strong candidate for the certain pirate.

Now for the final candidate
Kuzan 'Aokiji': This is not someone that many would consider but of course, Aokiji is now technically a pirate.

From this perspective, it would make sense if Shanks was concerned about Aokiji's motivations in joining Blackbeard and wanted to question the Gorosei on the matter.
Aokiji has previously implied to, Smoker, that he is not an evil person. "I'm still me." However, his motives in becoming a pirate are still unclear.

It might simply be that Shanks wants to know if he should move on Blackbeard, or if Aokiji has that covered.
Overall, I believe that there are 4 strongest candidates out of all these.

Kid, Shiki, Buggy & Aokiji.
Personally, I believe that the pirate in question is, Aokiji. Often the simplest answer is the best solution and this would be a logical choice that would also evade fan expectations for the most part.
Do you agree? Who would be your choice?

A quick thread on how Ryou affects the ability we've defined as 'Conqueror's Coating.'

#ONEPIECE #Analysis
To begin, it must be understood that Ryou is just the Wano name for Haki. It means 'Flowing Cherry Blossom."
As Ryou in it's most basic form, is just an extension of Armament Haki concepts, it's explained in almost exactly the same way as the Breathe of All Things was pre time skip. Essentially it is an advancement of that principle.

Can't You See The Light?
The best way to start this thread is by taking a look at a take from @ThePhantomStra5 regarding the Navy's 'Dark Justice'. This will give us the foundation on which the rest of the theory is based.
Many will know already, that 'Dark Justice' is the motto of Rob Lucci.

This is because Lucci is the perfect embodiment of perfect obedience to the status quo.

Usopp's Destiny

#ONEPIECE #Theory
Many may know already that Usopp's character is a combination of two inspirations. Aesop, the Greek Fabulist & Pinocchio, the enchanted boy puppet who's nose grows when he lies.
Usopp is characterised as someone who tells tall tales, fantastical stories & often obvious lies. In his introduction, we get a reference to the story of The Boy who Cried Wolf, immediately establishing Usopp's connection with lies and fairy tales.

The Fate of Vivi

#ONEPIECE #Theory
To get the best possible insight into what the fate of Vivi might be, it's best to start by looking back at what happened before. So let's begin with a quick narrative recap.
Vivi was first introduced to as in chapter 102, as 'Mysterious woman, Miss Wednesday'

Of course we know that she later turned out to be a princess.

She had infiltrated Baroque Works in attempt to undermine them.

The Real Name of Onigashima

#ONEPIECE #Theory
One thing is quite clear about Onigashima, it is the skull of an Ancient Giant. But which Ancient Giant?

The only other ones we know by name are, Oars & Oars Jr.
Oars is said to be 'The Continent Puller', a legendary figure who supposedly was so colossal in size that he could easily move entire islands.

Moria explains that he found the corpse of this legendary creature, in a 'frozen country.'

The Ancient Weapons: Poseidon, Pluton & Uranus

The Day of Disaster. Part 2

#ONEPIECE #Theory
The most interesting thing about Uranus (let's get the jokes out of the way) is that we have heard and seen almost nothing about it.

Pluton was introduced quite early, in Alabasta & Poseidon was first mentioned in Skypiea. But Uranus is only mentioned directly in Fishman Island.
We later learned in Water 7 and Enies Lobby, that Pluton was a battle ship, to which blueprints existed. These blueprints were in the hands of Tom's clan & passed down to Franky & Iceberg.

In Fishman Island, we learned that Poseidon is the mermaid princess. Shirahoshi.
