I think a lot of non-political people are slowly waking up to the fact that left-wing radicals have become a dominant force within several major institutions and are now using those positions to dictate a lot of our political and cultural conversations.
That's why a term like latinx, which is still only being used by ~2% of Hispanic speakers and that ~40% of Hispanics find offensive, is now regularly featured in news headlines and among academic discussions.
It's why neo-racism has become mostly normalized to the point where you now have major media figures writing and promoting obviously bigoted nonsense without consequence. It's why a morally bankrupt bigot like Kendi has become a prominent speaker and author.
This doesn't happen overnight. Instead of having debates about ideas, including radical ones, many universities now promote only one acceptable way of thinking. Then people who have been indoctrinated to think that way graduate and take prominent positions in media & education.
Now a lot of people are seeing it reflected in what grade schools are teaching and what is becoming allowable public discourse. And it's terrifying to people that are otherwise non-political because it feels like we are going in the wrong direction.
Most people viewed the last 5-6 decades as important eras of progress in the US. We took major steps toward viewing people as individuals deserving to be judged by their actions instead of mostly being defined by race, sexual orientation, gender etc.
Now radicals in prominent positions are trying to drag us in the opposite direction. They think it's fine because they will be the ones dictating the language and rules moving forward, but it is the antithesis of what most decent and morally aware people view as progress.

The problem with these people is they believe this alternate reality they have created for themselves and their colleagues, which thus allows to them justify almost anything in service of what they view as a just cause.
Anyways, the Milbanks of the world are going to keep throwing these tantrums and get even louder/more extreme as they lose their influence because most people recognize their version of this fight doesn't match reality.
Milbank is upset over negative coverage of Biden this year as his administration has created and failed to deal with multiple crises. Americans don’t approve of Biden performance, but Milbank believes the press should only say good things re him bc of these hypothetical enemies.

Enes Kanter didn't suddenly start speaking out last week. The guy has risked his personal safety and his family by actively and continuously standing up against one of the most brutal dictators in the world. @EnesFreedom 's dad spent 7 years in prison because of it.
@EnesFreedom He has shown more courage than all his critics could ever dream to have. And now he is rightly calling out the hypocrisy of those that exaggerate the issues here while profiting from much worse abuses elsewhere. That makes those who promote such selective outrage uncomfortable.
People who experience life elsewhere and know the reality outside the US also know that America is the freest and most tolerant country on earth so it bothers them when others ignore that context and make it seem like our problems are much worse than they actually are.

I swear I think this account is a parody sometimes because it shows just how little intellectual depth is required of Professors at some Ivy leagues.

dangerous to Democratic institutions because they advocate for free speech and intellectual diversity on college campuses.
These guys want a bubble where they can indoctrinate kids with their extreme beliefs without interference or pushback. They view any challenge to that environment as a threat to the society they want to create and cannot be tolerated.

Want to bet that the same people that spent the last week writing articles declaring our system is racist based on the outcome of a case that had little to do with race will now ignore the Arbery verdict, which had a racial element, because it undermines their conclusions?
How many of these takes did we get over the last few days?

All about a case that had nothing to do with race. Yet the Arbery trial was just ignored by the same people because they knew that the outcome wouldn't allow them to promote their smears.
These weren't random people. These were major outlets and leading politicians that tried to divide us by lying and insisting the KR was all about race while ignoring a case that actually did have racial elements.

Shameful. People should not forget it.

Is this a joke?

We are dealing with unprecedented supply chain crisis, partially driven by a labor shortage. Restricting the pool of possible drivers will only make that problem worse.
I’m honestly exhausted by the incompetence of this administration. They seriously don’t think about any consequences when they put stuff forward. Same story on issue after issue. And it’s bc all their decisions are driven by politics.
No different then scheduling Afghan withdrawal during fighting season bc they wanted it to be around 9/11. Or rescinding the Stay in Mexico policy at the border. Or suspending new and oil and gas drilling leases on public lands. Each time surprised they made the problem worse.

The US is not where it needs to be on race. We have a black mark in our history that lasted a long time & not easily overcome.

With that said, we are now also one of the most racially tolerant and diverse countries in world history and have made enormous progress.
Both of those things are true. There are a lot of people stuck on part 1 and insistent on ignoring part 2. What's even worse is that many of those people, in powerful positions, have promoted the belief that only way to deal with 1 is to reverse the progress that led to 2.
The way we achieved 2 was by recognizing that racial differences are not central to a person's identity or what we should judge others on. But a certain religious-like cult which believes that is wrong has now been normalized in the parts of the press, politics, & culture.
