@wpath is releasing the 8th version of its Standards of Care, intended as the "gold standard" for transgender health. Between the glaring omissions and the glib assumptions, we think it's unfit for purpose. And we want you to help them sort it out. wpath.org/soc8 1/6
One of the fundamentals of good science is to define your terms… but @wpath's #SOC8 doesn’t even define what "gender dysphoria" is, nor what they mean by "trans". It's hardly a solid basis for a treatment protocol... 2/6
They don’t acknowledge how many young people will naturally desist from a transgender identity. Nor do they explore the experiences of detransitioners, who don’t even get their own dedicated chapter. @wpath's #SOC8 still looks way too much like a one-way street. 3/6
Frighteningly, it turns out that @wpath cites a castration fetish site (!) in these new guidelines – where users post sadomasochistic stories with pedophilic themes, as covered in some detail by @4WPub here: 4w.pub/trans-health-a… 4/6
But while @wpath's #SOC8 WILL mention "male-to-eunuch gender dysphoria", it WON’T mention ROGD — even though this term has stood the test of academic scrutiny, and describes an arc of transgender identification which rings true for many parents of gender-questioning kids. 5/6
We want you to help them sort it out. Go to wpath.org/soc8 and give them your feedback. There’s still time for @wpath to rethink, and get this right.

DRUMROLL… You’ve already met the Gender Unicorn, the Genderbread Person and the Respectful Reindeer. These images are used to teach Gender Identity Theory to kids. We want to give teachers a less ideological alternative… so we’d like to introduce you to THE GENDER GIRAFFES!
More and more schools are obliged by law to teach about gender. Countless reach out to us, hoping we can recommend some realistic materials. Most teachers want the best for kids, and worry about what they’re seeing. Not everyone is a Lib of TikTok!
Some boys aren't macho; some girls aren't girly. Gender stereotypes can harm young minds. That’s why the Gender Giraffes – unlike the Gender Unicorn – don’t mention ‘gender identity’, and only talk about gender expression. Tomboys are still girls; tomgirls are still boys!
“The surgical removal of healthy breasts from girls who identify as boys is an experiment that future generations may judge harshly, a psychiatrist has warned.”
“Writing in the prestigious journal, Archives of Sexual Behavior, Melbourne psychiatrist Alison Clayton argues that transgender mastectomy may with time be seen as ‘dangerous medicine’ like discredited past practices such as psychiatric lobotomy, which won a Nobel prize in 1949.”
It’s been clear for a while now that there’s trouble at the top of WPATH, with senior, big-hitter figures openly expressing their concerns that gender-questioning adolescents are receiving a fraction of the assessment they need. genspect.org/wpath-clinicia… 2/10
Much of the debate centres around what does (not) constitute conversion therapy. Can therapists explore root causes of gender distress? Currently many fear this will be misconstrued as “conversion therapy”, as if black magic or exorcism rather than compassionate exploration 3/10
Genspect’s #ROGD conference will be starting shortly. Last chance to register is right now! You will receive a zoom link by email instantly. We will be live tweeting some highlights here. Stay tuned!
Genspect Manager Angus Fox welcomes hundreds of listeners and recognizes #TransDayOfRemembrance.
Genspect Director @stellaomalley3 is giving an overview of #ROGD. She raises that there are several ways in and out of gender dysphoria. You can change your mind, change your body, or learn to manage your distress.
Drumroll… it’s time to reveal to the world @Genspect’s first ever daughter website, statsforgender.org! This site is intended for parents, journalists, politicians, and the growing group of people who are interested in gender.

The world of gender has been blighted for far too long with low quality research, online surveys and selection bias. statsforgender.org gives you the information you need to know, in one place, without too much academic jargon. 2/10
statsforgender.org presents simple, easily understood information in a clear manner, eg: The term ‘Two-Spirit’ is not an ancient Native American term. It was invented in 1990. Evey point is backed up by research that has been selected for it's reliability
