Hello world! Please share my story to Twidder and donate to my GoFundMe if you have anything available to spare. I’ve been through excruciating treatment for 14 days now at the vet and thought I’d spend my lonely time by telling you my story. gofundme.com/f/rescue-randy…
I am currently being treated 24/7 with IV fluids, prednisone and occasional doses of furosemide and pamidronate when my calcium levels rise to dangerous levels or hypercalcemia. Not treating my hypercalcemia can result in life-threatening mineralization of my soft tissues (cont)
including vital organs such as the kidney and gall bladder. I am asking for your support in providing relief to my family and raise awareness and money for research into treatment for cholecalciferol poisoning of our furry frens (cont)
Many understand that rodenticides are extremely dangerous to pets, however, cholecalciferol-based rodenticides take on another level. This poison can remain in an animal’s body for months, and continue to cause dangerously high calcium or phosphorous levels. (Cont)
There is no currently known antidote for this relatively new-use poisoning by rodenticide products and will continue to be a rising threat to my frens. This fundraiser is meant not only to help treat me but to raise awareness in the rescue animal community, research funds (cont)
As a result of my ingestion of this deadly poison and hospitalization, I has undergone numerous treatments to lower my calcium levels to safer levels. Repeatedly though, the slow-releasing poison has continued to raise my levels back up after a day or two. (Cont)
I will continue to need 24/7 treatment until my body stabilizes with the cholecalciferol ingestion and can maintain levels without receiving IV fluids. My recent treatment (12/4 of pamidronate) lowered my calcium levels to 12.0 (0.2 above the normal range) (cont)
, but as of yesterday (12/5), they spiked back up to 13.9, considered to be hypercalcemic. I is currently in good health, but my kidney function may fail in the event treatment slips. (Cont)
Veterinary bills have already cost over $15k and my family does not know how long Is will continue to need treatment. Bills continue to rise by nearly $1k per day. My family has always been supportive of the rescue community (they have another rescue) (cont)
and has donated without needing any thanks and remaining anonymous in the past. My family has committed to donating any additional money raised here beyond my bills to research into this horrific cholecalciferol poisoning and more efficient treatments (Cont)
They hope that future families don’t have to go through these excruciating times without their loved ones, and can help save more of our pets that go through this.
