Yes, it's technically true that most cases are "mild" and have been even with Delta. But to say that is how Delta was being initially reported by people on the ground is an attempt to revise history. That's not how Delta was viewed in the early reports out of India.

1/2
Delta, the B.1.617.2 variant, was discovered in December 2020, although not much was really known about it or was it seen spreading until February 2021.

Immediately, severe illness was being seen in Maharashtra where pneumonia was seen in early stages.

indiatoday.in/coronavirus-ou…
Over the first several weeks, although death rates did not necessarily increase, there were most certainly deaths and the rates did not decrease either. By April, India was experiencing a second wave that doctors were describing as having higher viral loads and rate of symptoms.
On April 16, doctors were noting how the lungs were being attacked frequently, at least anecdotally. See an excerpt from Daily Rounds Image
Fortunately, Delta has not had a higher fatality rate and may be lower.

But the early observations of Delta attacking the lungs has been different in how Omicron is being observed thus far. Namely, it's not. That's key as pneumonia is the primary manner of death in COVID-19.
Surveillance published in the Tshwane District of South Africa last week observed that 70% of hospitalizations were not oxygen dependent, and merely incidental *with* COVID. They also observed much less pneumonia and severe illness. Image
So far, far fewer are being seen in the ICU or on ventilators with difficulty breathing than at the same point during the Delta wave.

"No one has been even close to being seriously ill," said one Cape Town practitioner to Bloomberg on Dec. 3.

"Most people are presenting with coughs and upper respiratory tract infections," said another doctor.
In the ECDC update today, they note over 1,400 global confirmed cases of Omicron. Thus far, not a single death has been recorded.

Even panic promoter Saint Fauci admits already Omicron is "almost certainly" not worse than Delta (read: probably significantly less so in Fauci speak).

Here are more data and reports from the ground that I posted this past weekend.

Again, we're seeing much less severe illness so far, and specifically very little pneumonia or impact on the lungs. This is huge. In 407,00+ of the 788,000+ COVID-associated deaths, Pneumonia was recorded on the death certificate.

data.cdc.gov/NCHS/Provision…
If we continue to see a virus transmit without the same impact on the lungs and continue to be largely an upper respiratory event, deaths will remain low and this will be more along the lines of a bad cold. If these data hold up, this could be a great development.

History will look fondly on @GovRonDeSantis for...

* Retreating from lockdowns when he saw a lack of benefit
* Protecting vulnerable
* Being honest when he saw vaccines were reducing risk but not stopping transmission
* Prioritizing treatment
* Recognizing seasonality & immunity
They...scoffed when he said lockdowns weren't helping.
Pleaded when he opened schools.
Ridiculed for citing seasonal patterns.
Threw a tantrum for vaccinating elderly first.
Outraged for banning forced school masks.
Amazed when he recognized vaccines weren't stopping cases.
But time and time again, data proves these decisions correct.

And now we see doubling down on boosters to stop cases that aren't being stopped by vaccines, and they're changing the definition of vaccinated just as he predicted they would.

This is very transparently not science. There is a clear discrediting interest here by Big Pharma. This variant could be good for the world, but bad for business.
Pfizer profits by quarter

2021 Q3: $24.1 bil
2021 Q2: $19.0 bil
2021 Q1: $14.6 bil
2021 through three quarters: $57.7 billion

All of 2020: $41.9 billion
All of 2019: $51.8 billion
All of 2018: $53.6 billion

Don't mistake anything Pfizer says for science. This is bottom line.
Let me correct myself. I said profits. This is revenue, not profit. Just to clarify.

Remember, variants are not profound. The wave happening in South Africa right now is happening almost exactly at the same time as last year. Only this time they have added antigen tests as counting toward their rapidly rising numbers. Seasonality is the cause not Omicron
We called this out when it happened. South Africa announced they were adding antigen results to the total.

It resulted in immediate data dumps, including 18,500+ on Nov. 23.

In Pensacola, @GovRonDeSantis has arrived at the podium where a sign reads "Florida State Guard" and "Let Us Alone," the motto of the first state guard in 1845.
The Governor announces we are recommending over $100 million in funding of the Florida National Guard.
Adding we want the ability to respond to events in the state, we are also recommending money to reestablish the Florida State Guard, a state-run volunteer force to help in disasters and emergencies as a supplement to the national guard.

Today most can't spell Omicron.

Yesterday they thought it was the Nu variant.

Two days ago most didn't know it existed.

The only reports on the ground is that it's mild so far.

Yet global leaders are threatening restrictions over a coming surge. Pure evil manipulation.
There is nothing profound about variants. They're natural permutations of a respiratory virus. The media has attempted to exaggerate every single one, and none have been remarkably different other than Delta being a little more transmissible. Branding them is a fear tactic.
Think about it: they're already trying to link the upcoming winter wave with Omicron, even though we literally have zero data supporting it is any more transmissible and anecdotes suggest it's milder. And the winter wave has already started, but they'll blame it on the "variant."

You can't make this up. Well, apparently you can. It's called journalism.
Folks, that there are two different kids mentioned in this story, and the second being highlighted, is not actually a gotcha.

The headline references the kid being lost to COVID but the details do not establish that. They say died "with" and had serious unspecified conditions.
Given that the previous youngest known death also later was revealed that they didn't die "from" the virus, this headline is irresponsible.
