I told y'all the Senate would raise the debt ceiling.

Turtle McTraitor blinked. Just the threat of ending the filibuster forced him into an agreement to create a single-use un-filibuster carve-out for the debt ceiling increase.

This technique can be used again--to, for instance, pass a voting rights bill.

Without ending the filibuster.

It's a way to create a one-time single-use carve-out to prevent a filibuster on a single bill.

For the 34 or so Democratic Senators who don't want to end the filibuster (no, it's NOT just Manchin and Sinema), this may be a way to enact needed legislation and keep the filibuster.

Ending the filibuster is one technique to achieve some goals. It's not a goal itself.

I'm not making any predictions, except that a voting rights bill =will= get enacted. I don't know which method will be used, but the same gyrations used to pass the debt limit increase could turn out to be the way.

For anyone not planning to vote in 2022, or planning to vote for a minor party candidate (who cannot possibly win)--and, therefore, possibly help fascists gain control of the House and/or the Senate:

Tell me exactly what good you think that would do.

When Congress comes back from their short recess, Democrats will pass Build Back Better.

Then they must raise the debt ceiling. Republicans have threatened to filibuster that. But NOT passing it will tank the whole world. Democrats will raise the debt ceiling.

Raising the debt ceiling might require modifying the filibuster unless Bitch McTraitor caves again. Which he might do.

It's a game of chicken Democrats are prepared to play. Republicans WANT Democrats to modify the filibuster, because they think they'll get the Senate back.

If Republicans get back the Senate, and Democrats have already modified the filibuster in order to raise the debt ceiling, McTraitor will use that as an excuse to modify the filibuster further (or kill it) to get anything Russia wants.

In 2022, there are 34 Senators to be elected. 14 of those seats are currently held by Democrats, 20 by Republicans. It's a good opportunity to firm up Democratic control of the Senate.

5 Senators--all Republicans--have announced they're not seeing reelection. Those seats are open, and will not have an incumbent in the race:

Richard Burr- North Carolina
Pat Toomey - Pennsylvania
Rob Portman - Ohio
Richard Shelby - Alabama
Roy Blunt - Missouri

North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio and perhaps Missouri are possible pickups for Democrats.

Wisconsin is another competitive state where Democrats have traditionally done well, and a possible flip (let's get rid of Ron Johnson).

Rubio in Florida should also be vulnerable.

There are about five areas for which Twitter has been attacking AG Garland.

1) Hasn't indicted Trump based on Mueller's work.
2) Hasn't indicted Trump for the Stormy Daniels thing.
3) Hasn't enforced the Bannon subpoena.
4) Hasn't brought sedition charges against anyone.

And finally:

5) He's not telling us what he's doing.

Let's look at all of these areas.

First, be aware, for any major indictment, a grand jury must be empanelled, and all the evidence that has been gathered must be presented to them.

A grand jury can request more evidence and more testimony in addition to what has already been accumulated. Any indictments come out of their deliberations.

This means that nothing that has come before can be simply picked up and used to put handcuffs on someone tomorrow.

Living as I now do in the Colorado mountains--

nearly every night is clear.

I watch the Moon change phase and position among the stars--every night.

The Big Dipper is in a different place in the sky--every night.

Venus and Jupiter and Saturn keep moving.

Every morning, the Sun rises in a slightly different spot against the mountain peaks. And it sets in a different place in the evening.

Intellectually, I knew all this, because I love science and I studied astronomy in school. Yeah, I'm a geek, and a little nerdy, and I always have been.

I knew all this. But now, I'm living it.

I couldn't see all this in the city.

The dark truth y'all need to know:

Republicans aren't going to stop trying to overthrow America.

After the above sentence, there's no "... unless ..."
They simply aren't going to stop.

Locking up everyone involved--for life--won't stop them. It won't even slow them down.

Y'all who want "justice" and "accountability" and who WANT IT NOW--you need to know:

That won't stop them.

It won't be deterrent. It won't prevent the next assault.

It will instead enrage them and create a class of martyrs who will further invigorate their cause.

We absolutely =must= prosecute all the insurrectionists to the fullest extent of the law.
